I wanted to give a seperate Smmothboost Whipple Electronic Boost Valve Dyno review.
- With the smoothboost rheostat F
Full boost: 1096crank HP SAE 910.86 WHP.
- With smoothboost at midway boost level setting: 724.90 whp SAE, 545 WTQ SAE, 660 crank TQ SAE.
- With smoothboost at minimum boost setting (about 4lbs boost)
482.68 WTQ and 665.80 WHP SAE.
Note: The tune was not modified for the smoothboost 50% and 0% boost setting for their dyno.
The owner of the shop said I should sell these kits for what it done was incredible.

I really like the idea of this. I race my car quite a bit and have been swapping out my blower pulley depending on what class or event I'm running for more or less boost. It's starting to get old... This would be ideal as I could always leave the high boost pulley on, but dial it back to my liking with the knob or turn it all the way up when wanting it on kill. The drivability improvements would just be a bonus for me.

I assume the install is pretty straight forward? Install bypass valve, tap into tps wire, power & ground, install knob in the car? Is it as easy as that? Are you able to install it with the blower on the engine? Any fitment issues etc?

The only thing I don't like is the price, but I could see talking myself into it.

Would be interesting to see what it makes at say 12lbs witih the smoothboost adjusted, vs 12lbs with a smaller pulley

Are you able to have it adjust boost per gear?
I'm currently using PCMTEC to limit power by gear to help with traction on the street, however it is not working as smoothly as I hoped.
Smoothboost seems like a viable option if it can be setup by gear.

The kit is pretty much Plug N Play. The only thing you will have to do is route wire, install a relay, fuse etc. Now for running this on a track? No idea how efficiently it would work. It might just work fine but until someone tries this, who knows. It should be just fine but until tested on a track, we wont know.

Not yet as far as I have been told. I know Kaizen said they might make a relay so you could control boost by speed going through the CAN Buss.

If running a 14psi pulley and you turn the knob all the way up, I would hope at WOT it instantly closes the bypass and you get 14psi.

I know statically and on the Dyno, since it is directly plugged in line of the throttle pedal connector it moves open and closed IAW pedal position.

Out of curiousity what issues are you running into? If you post on our forums with screenshots of what you've tried we may be able to assist dialing it in. I know @engineermike (I think) has done this with success, or I may have crossed my wires with someone else.

I’ve played with it some. You can adjust torque by gear and also rpm if you don’t like the torque curve. @mejohn50 did more with it than I did though.

G'day Doug, are these smooth boost controllers readily available of the shelf so to speak for a gen 5 whipple blower?
