Shift Knob Issue

Anyone ever had trouble removing the knob on your manual shifter? Can’t get mine to budge at all. Afraid I may break something trying to remove it. Any ideas?

Some people have used a strap wrench or a towel and wrench to get it off. Mine came off with a pair of gloves and a good twist.

I just grabbed mine and twisted it off. No tools required.

Sometimes it helps to set your purse down first. Just kidding. I had the same issue. I though I was going to twist the shifter out of whack. Then it just broke loose. I might have done it from the passanger side, just to get a little more for leverage. The new one did not go near as tight.

I did mine after the car had been sitting in the sun all closed up. It was pretty warm inside. It came right off without a lot of effort.

Yep. The previous owner decided to use red loctite on mine. It was a pain to remove. I have a thread about my misadventures here...

Had the same problem on mine. Previous owner used red loctite. I used a heat gun to heat the knob up. I wanted to save the knob but after some time of trying to get it off, I said the hell with it. I put a pair of channel locks on it and it still didn’t come off. I ended up turning the shift lever inside of the shifter body itself. That’s when I used the heat gun to heat it up, had a buddy hold the lever with a pair of vice grips, while I went to town on the knob with the channel locks. It came off after that

Thanks for this tip. Mine was so tight I was concerned about damaging the shift post by twisting it too hard. Left my car in the sun yesterday at the gym- came out and I was able to get it off FINALLY. Couldn't wait to get this new Bullitt knob on

I'm a bit late with this, but I've found that wearing leather gloves helps get enough of a grip on a knob to get it off, excluding times when red threadlocker was used.
