15.5.C. Any shock absorbers may be used.

A coilover is a type of shock.
Has there ever been a ruling, or "clarification" on this issue? Or did the Mustang community just take a consevative approach to 15.8; not considering the "herien" loophole and the 15.5.C allowance for alternate spring mounts?

Don't the Corvette guys routinely replace their leaf springs with coilover setups? That is changing at least the upper spring mount.

Even if we have officially been told no rear coilovers, it might be worthwhile to push for a rule change if most off the shelf performance hardware uses coilover rear shocks. Note that they changed the Watts Linkage rule after Vorslag made a public stink about it.

It's not that hard, sorry that you think it is.

If you would like to continue this discussion of rules interpretation, can we not do it in this thread?

.....and where is the part that says, go ahead and put coilovers on. Alternate spring mount doesn't mean you can add a spring mount where they do not exist. Doesn't say you can, so you can't.

Write a letter for clarification.....maybe SCCA can explain it in different terms for you.
If the same top hat is.used with an alternate spring perch, but retaining the same shock mount, it makes me wonder too. Problem being, is that mount stong enough for the spring load?

I'm not likely to go to ESP or Street Touring but I don't understand the craving so many people who aren't "posers" have for rear coil overs. Shocks at all quality levels will soon be available and springs with adjustable height lower perches are already available. The stock spring upper mount is on the frame rails which means "strong". The shock mounting is to a "vertical panel" of unknown (to us) load carrying ability other than we can be confident that the Ford engineers made it plenty strong for shock loads. We don't know if they made it strong enough for high rate spring loads also.

FYI I read through the rules and I seriously doubt that Street Prepared or Street Touring legal autocross Corvettes have changed to coil overs.

if you guys wanna write letters to allow rear coilovers on cars that didn't have them stock, i won't stop ya! would sure make my life easier, at least until an adjustable rear 2.5"/60mm perch becomes available (KW and roush won't sell theirs separately, and they use non-standard springs anyway)..

on another note, overnight parts from japan arrived today :p

the only question that remains is, 3.31 or 3.55?! when i embarked on this journey, i was convinced that 3.31 was the way to go, for both gearing and traction. but after running a few events on a reasonably setup car (shocks and fresh, wide rubber), and recently bumping my limiter to 7800, i'm not so sure anymore. while the 3.73 on the street is much too short and quickly overwhelms the tires, i've actually grown to enjoy it autox'ing, and especially love the quick power delivery when i'm low in the revs in 2nd gear. of course, even with a higher limiter, it's still only good for 66mph on the 315s, so not a viable option in lincoln. decisions, decisions..

Looks like all those fancy parts worked!

Boardkat and co-driver 1-2 in class and at the pointy end of pax at the Packwood NT. Car looked (and sounded) like we all fantasized. Congrats, Dennis and Adam!

You didn't do too badly yourself in FS with what I guess is an Ecoboost 2015 (per Solomatters FB post). Planning on attending Nationals in FS this year?:)

thanks, des! been through a lot of hurdles to get the car where it is so it's definitely satisfying to see the results validate all the blood, sweat and tears spent on this build :)

it goes without saying that you're surprising quite a few people in FS-land. keep it up, and see ya at the pro this weekend!!
