Just so I'm clear. You purchased a high end television over the internet from a company you haven't done business with before. I'm sure you made the purchase in part because of the price and they had "a professional website". You didn't do any research on this company you haven't bought from before. Now your mad that the legal system won't bail you out for your bad decisions. I would suggest you eat the shit sandwich you made for yourself, stop blaming others for your bad decisions and move on.
So many internet tough guys these days. It's truly one of the biggest flaws in the mass communications era. Everyone speaks to each other without repercussions or respect from the safety of being behind a remote monitor. I wonder if you'd speak to others that way in person. Where I'm from, we'd take a trip to the wood shed. One of us would return calling the other sir. Might be you. Might be me. But we'd find out.

Secondly, you could say virtually all criminal justice interactions are to correct someone's bad decisions. So because someone chose to drive at 2:30 a.m. and was killed by a drunk driver, it's now the victim's fault?

Again, I know you probably don't have the faculties to understand this, I'm not frustrated that LE won't do anything. I'm frustrated that the legal system prevents ME (and others) from handling it. That's the part that escapes you.

But many of these aren't some single business deal gone bad. Scammers rarely scam one person and done with it. Even in cases where MULTIPLE people have called asking for help, it's still "civil matter." Which as we've discussed and pointed out, is not practical for most people as the costs are usually as much or more than the theft/fraud. So the victim is left with virtually no practical recourse.

Thankfully, mechanisms like Paypal are screening out a lot of scammers. On one of the FB mustang forums a member posed as another scammer and had discussions with one based out of Cyprus. The guy was moaning about how business was slow for him because everyone was demanding PPG&S these days.

I don't expect LE to intervene for every business deal gone South, but when a detective tells me (yeah, we know this guy, we get calls all the time) we've gone from civil matter to hey, try helping us out here. But there's no money in solving property crime (or violent crime for that matter).

It's sad to say, but the best thing would be an anonymous tip that the scammer had a large amount of drugs or cash at his address. You'd have every cop within 10 miles at his door in 5 minutes.
Maybe I m reading it wrong but this guy is an engine builder and does build and has in the past?? If so, then it s a civil matter.
Could it be prosecuted, technical maybe. Lots of missing information here to determine.
I am on the Op side but life sometimes is tough.
Just follow the civil path (shouldn't t cost you more than a few bucks. Your time certainly, but thats your path right now , not what YOU(others) think should be.
Adam 12- Just the facts sir.
Lessons learned/. Do your home work on the business. Use a Credit card. Police shy away from these types of disputes.

They should get him on mail fraud at the min. Heck I remember in my youth a friend put an add in the paper that said "send your dollar to" his address.

Lots of people sent him a dollar. I was going to do the same thing but before I could the police arrested him on mail fraud. He was a juvenile so just got wrist slapped.

I find a 4K fraud one hell of a lot worse than asking people to send money with no promise of any return.

I reached out to the police, very small town. So at least he might get watched a little closer and slip up. I am going to try the civil route for sure, and my job provides me the ability to travel for free.

You watch too much tv and must be leaving in a parallel universe
A judge would need to sign a warrant for that and on the warrant request that the cop will have to sign, Pc ( probable cause) would have to be listed
And what is pc in this case? An anonymous call ???
No cops would ever waste their time requesting a warrant on such a pc without other corroborating pc
Without a warrant the only thing that a cop could do is known as “knock and talk”
You knock on the door and ask, if anyone open the door, if you can go in
If the answer is no, you can’t

just to add, the policy of not to handle what looks like civil case are decided way up above the officer you speak to. FYI.
it seems everyone has missed the point here.

the dude is dirty, maybe he has warrants, and maybe he's up to no good in other areas.

cops start poking around, maybe he goes to jail for something unrelated but we helped the local PD become aware of his shenanigans.

I get the point, OP got ripped off and is mad that the system won’t help him and doesn’t allow him to take street justice. Because where he’s from that’s how they do it, woodshed style.

So, you can't handle being spoken to in a manner you don't like and your only recourse is physical assult? Are you 12? Because that's how children act.

IF you are disrespectful enough ANY man would fight you fucking internet cucks that all talk like billy bad asses behind these keyboards. Trigger finger turn twitter fingers. Most you people that talk like this would NEVER act like that face to face.

THAT's his point, and I don't always agree with @Angrey , but here yea I understand.

I said you made a bad decision, please tell me how that qualifies as tough talk? I stated my opinion based on your account of the incident. This is a forum where people offer opinions.
