Hi everyone,

My mustang (2018 pp1 5.0) door hinge is rusted like in the photo. I purchased the plastic cover 15-23 Mustang Door Hinge Cover Set UPR - UPR Products to cover them once cleaned. What type of cleaning solution would everyone recommend for cleaning it? Also, for those that have, did you remove the hinge for cleaning? If so was it difficult?

Photo not mine, pulled from the internet, but the rust is the same.

This problem has been highlighted on the UK cars fairly regularly and for quite a while now :frown:

Example thread : https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/rusting-door-hinges.90859/

Some guys cleaned them off and repainted - I don't know the exact process but it might be worth you doing a bit of digging or sending some PM's

I covered mine in rust preventative wax and then popped the covers on - they will look messy underneath but its not seen, they shouldn't rust and the cover keeps everything externally neat.

I suppose any waterproof grease would do the same job :like:

Just an FYI too:

You can pick up those door hinge (and the door latch covers) for mere pennies or under $5 dollars on Amazon, eBay or that Aliexpress.

Lol dangit, I paid $30 for em. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for reply.

Oxalic acid. Google it. I use it for any rust problems.
Thanks I will take a look!
