I'm no Mustang historian but I did want to make a few points here.

Ford seems to be on the Ecoboost kick by using smaller boosted engines to perform in direct competition with the higher displacement motors offered. The F150 is offered in a V8 or EcoV6 with similar performance standards. The Mustang is offered in the V6 or the Eco I4 with similar performance standards.

I don't think any GT500/Super Snake/Cobra will have the Ecoboost badge because they don't represent equal performance with larger displacement engine. If anything, the Mustang GT will get an EcoV6TT to compete with the Coyote/VooDoo which holds true to the value of the "ecoboost".

Now, I would love to see a Twin Scroll Twin Turbo V8 GT500 that runs all over the Hellcat but I don't think it will be branded as a "ecoboost"

I think the next gen GT500 will be TT V8 and the HP will top the Hellcat if for no other reason than bragging rights (No foundation for any of that, just my opinion). Ford is serious about performance and the Mustang is their halo vehicle (I don't count the GT, too rare and too costly) so the GT500 will beat the Hellcat.

As a side note, I don't see Ford completely dispensing with the V8 in future generations. Now having said that, I believe Ford will limit the V8 to SE models like the GT350, GT500, Boss etc. I suspect Ford will eventually move the GT to a boosted V6 but again that is a total guess on my part and as anyone who knows me can attest, I am frequently "mis-informed" ;)

I, too, hope the GT500 sports a twin turbo 5.0 or 5.2.

If Ford were to downsize the V8, a 4.7 (289 has a nice ring to it ;) Twin Turbo would also be cool ;)

Yes! It would be great to have a 289 under the hood of a Mustang again!

Ford trademarked the word Ecobeast last year. I can't help but think that
Ecobeast will be in play with the next GT500. A thick sleeve 5.2 block with a displacement of 5.0 with twin turbos and a 10 speed auto would be a perfect fit for the GT500 IMO.

Ford did recently file a trademark for the name "Ecobeast". It is all speculation what it would in fact be used for. Many believe the new Raptor but no one is saying for sure.

Edit: Someone beat me to it....LOL

Ford trademarked Ecobeast earlier than that, they just renewed the trademark last year.

The gt500 is about pure performance.

"Eco" doesn't belong in the branding.

Boost does.

A twin turbo Ford v8 with at least the amount of R&d gone into the lesser engines would put quite the scare into the high priced super cars. And Fords economy of scale and trickle down will enable continued... "Affordability."

Have you guys been listening to yourselves type? This is the 50th anniversary of the Mustang. They could've made the GT350 a boosted car but they maintained the essence the essence of the original by making it a true track car.

2017 will be the 50th anniversary of the GT500 and when it first appeared was a big block street eater. Ford has to go big with this anniversary package or go home. Chrysler ain't playing around and brought the best offering they've ever made in the Hellcat. Ford has to do the same. The numbers 289 & GT500 are not synchronous... Now if Ford took the 6.2L Raptor engine and stroked it to 7.1L/427 that would be the way to celebrate a 50th anniversary.

Ford will likely use the same emissions excuse that GM used for the LS7 to LT4 transition.

I doubt that would fit anyway. A muscle car back then meant big power in a small car, and the easiest way to do that was ram the most amount of cubes into an engine bay as they could. This is no longer the case. Welcome to the 21st century by the way :p

I think Ford's aim with Ecoboost is to market this "brand" so that it becomes synonymous with performance in that it gives the same outputs as would be expected from larger engines. Now that they've used it with the GT and its racing donor program there's turning back.

Lol... Guess my DeLorean couldn't break 88.

A little reasoning here... The GT350 from the doors forward is different from a GT. if Ford is willing to take a specialty car and make that much of a difference for a select few cars then I think if they wanted to shoehorn a larger block into the mustang it wouldn't be a problem.

Did you have to look at the post with the engine dimensions? The Coyote isn't far off from the 427.

As far as emissions goes, who knows till they tried it...
