Hi folks
I'm picking up a 2019 GT PP2 and really want to replace the stock shift knob with the black "Ford Performance" one.
Are they all the same?
How hard to install?
What vendor here sells it?

I changed the knob in my 2019 Bullitt to a Steeda knob. if installing a the knob is all you’re going to do, it’ll be pretty easy. I went to the hardware store and bought a jam nut for mine, so that I could make sure it stayed in place. I marked one of the flats with a sharpie, so that I could count the number of flats or turns that I put on the nut. I then ran the knob down until it was at about the 11 o’clock position and then turned the knob until the shift pattern was straight. Note: Be sure to test fit and check for proper reverse engagement before installing the knob for the final time and using loctite on the nut.

So no really touching of the reverse lockout when just the knob?

Correct, the jam nut will sit higher than the reverse lockout. You’re going to have to count the flats on the jam nut and find the sweet spot that still allows you to engage reverse. This may take a few tries. Once that’s done, spin the knob on to where it just barely kisses the jam nut and the shift pattern is pointing in the 11 o’clock position. Remove the knob and jam nut one final time, use a little blue loctite on the shifter shaft threads, reinstall the jam nut and knob and tighten the knob until the shift pattern is straight.

I assume the "flats" you are referring to are the threads?

No, each side of the nut represents a flat (6 flats total). You will color one of the six sides on the nut and count from there. I suggested count flats because you may not stop at a full revolution and it’s easier to count in flats. For example, from the 6 o’clock position, color the flat with sharpie, turn the nut one flat clockwise, advancing to the next flat spot and so on. If you did this six times, you’ve made one full revolution on the nut. When you start out, I recommend using the 6 o’clock position because it’ll be a normal view for you, as you’ll likely be sitting in the driver’s seat making the adjustments.

I put the FP knob on with nothing more than blue loctite (243).

I put it in reverse so the collar was up, screwed it down, then backed it off until the engraving was approx level, put it in third, levelled it fully and then let it sit overnight.

My OE knob was secured with nothing more than loctite and it was ‘shit I’m going to break it’ tight.

My knob kept coming loose. I did not want to use Blue Locktite stick again because when I had to take off the knob, I ended up destroying it. So, I used a split spring lock washer. It took me 3rd time to get it right. This time I used liquid locktite.

RTR knob I ended up destroying. This time, I got a White Knob from AmericanMuscle, with no side engravings. It always bothered me, so I wanted a plain sides for second knob.

Why both??? You'd only need one of them, if at all. My Bullitt knob is tapered, and the threads are not metal, so there's no need for any of that. You just have to go tighten it, then back off a little (like if you were making a tap), and repeat a few times, and you'd be as tight as you want to be. I had to do it more than I wanted due to having a unsightly gap between bottom of knob and top of reverse lockout. So had to grab the knob with rubber gloves for better leverage, and made it go like 3 full turns more. I wanted to go a full turn more, but it was getting too damn tight, and was afraid to break something on the shifter, so decided to stop. But it looks perfect unless you lower your head below shifter level.

I put the FP knob on with nothing more than blue loctite (243).
Hey, I'm digging that knob more and more, but wish it was more 'matte', to be less conspicuous, and better fit the interior. May I ask you if you know how much it weighs? I wouldn't want anything weighing less than the Bullitt knob, which I think is right at 1/2-lb. Hopefully you weighed yours :). Let me know. I like the FP logo too. The white knob looks cool, but there's really nothing white inside the car, so kind of doesn't make sense. And I don't give a crap about the movie, so might change it if you convince me. Ha ha. Wish it didn't have the stupid Ford logo, but whatever. Thanks brother.

How about a shift knob in the same color as the car?
https://www.wmgarage.com/product-page/2015-ford-mustang-s550-manual-shift-knob

They can make it in any color, even if it's not listed. And with any engraving of your choice (or no engraving at all if you so wish).
Just imagine how gorgeous it must look in Highland Green. :inlove:

And while you're at it, you can also get a dark green shifter surround to go with it:

It's quite hefty, too:

Thank you :like:

Its funny, when I took the car in work (before we started working from home - again ...) the first thing 'none car people' commented about on the outside was the colour, the first thing on the inside was the knob.

I didn't weigh it sorry, I wasn't really interested in the weight thing but I appreciate its important to some. If I was making some comments from my casual observations :
  • I would say it was a little lighter than the standard OE GT knob.
  • As it has a reasonable size brass insert and you say your Bullitt knob doesn't, as the outer material is the same I would say the FP knob is most likely a little heavier than the OE Bullitt knob.
  • The OE GT knob felt heavier than I expected (I don't know if the weight of it changed over the years ? Mines a 2020). I saved the knob so if it helps I could weigh it for you to use as a guide against my comments above ?
If you like the idea but not the ford performance logo, there is also a ford racing version of it, I know that @Benno2000 did one of those following the instructions I posted :like:

If I had a red, white or blue car I would have done the flag colours, I think that would look so cool ... :sunglasses:
