Because it's proof that there's a problem with the FPC 5.2. They're hoping to ride out the warranty period for as many FPC engines that they can.

just curious to the folks seeing oil loss: is the car smoking upon startup or during run? do you notice? oil doesn't just vanish; its either leaks out or is burnt. The latter will be noticeable if its burning that much...
Lots of soot on exhaust pipes tips. No Leaks, No smoke on startup. someone noticed when I was at the Track under heavy acceleration there was a puff of smoke
but that was it. My 2017 GT350 used 1 quart ever 120 miles.

I've read something about the gt350 changing blocks to the new gt500 block when the gt500 production begins.

Does anyone know if this is true?
Is this why the 2019s are taking so long to become availible?

Is it going to be all 2019s or should we wait till fall or something ?

Yes, it is true. The block in the 350 is going to be replaced by the block from the 500.

Since the 500 won’t go into production until next year it stands to reason that the change in the block for the 350 won’t happen till the 2020 model year.

The engine in my 2017 GT350 is currently being replaced under warranty by Ford due to excess oil consumption, ~4 quarts over 1000 miles. The dealership has not shared with me any of the images or likely reasons for the issue.

Just a random datapoint...

Both GT350’s in Carvana have Carfax’s that show engine replacement/buyback due to oil consumption.

I sure do wish I could buy one of those "excessive" oil consumption engines. I'd bet a rebuild of the valve train assembly would take care of that. Swap out the OPG to billet and a few minor refreshes and BAM!, you got yourself a track engine.

The core on these engines is only a few thousand bucks. Anyone undergoing engine replacement ask about buying the core. I will buy it from you.

Pretty sure Ford is not letting people buy it back.

Most I read also Ford won't let you buy it they don't want you to know what the underlying issue really is.

That is the norm, yes. All it takes is one service manager to say "sure, you can have it for the core fee".

Well, I don't know if that is totally it, but I also understand that each engine is torn down to collect data. Unfortunately the engine is destroyed thereafter.

Yes, anyone who gets their engine replaced, please do ask. However I would only be interested in oil consumption engines. The 'ol no oil pressure due to a failed OPG is beyond repair for my practical purposes.

I doubt it’s up to the manager or service writer to offer up the core back to you. The new engine comes from Ford, not the dealer. It’s not his to sell back and they would probably get fired if they did. It’s defective so they Ford, has no reason to give it back.

My 2017 had engine replaced by previous owner. I looked at service records and shows at 5500 miles, had check engine light p0301 and p0316. Cyl 1 compression down 35%. They found Cylinder 1 intake valve spring broken and bent valve.
Hmm another valve spring...sounds like common problem on this topic

Probably made from crappy recycled steel. If you make steel from scratch you can carefully determine its composition. So much steel these days is made from all kinds of recycled material of various grades and compositions, you never know what your gonna get. Just like Forrest said
