Are there any repercussions for running E85, other than a tune is there anything else needed?

Bigger fuel pump or dual pumps and larger injectors. E85 switch would be more beneficial for FI gt's or ecoboosts.

Ecoboosts will not be able to run E85 for a while... At least no until upgraded injector pumps and injectors come out.

We've had no problem running E30 on the 3.5L eco's though.

You don't need a pump. Just injectors. Stock injectors have been used, but 42lb injectors are cheap and recommended.

The mustang engines are NOT flex fuel and can't run E85 or you will destroy your engine!

Deer God don't put that crap in your car!
I retired from a Very large law enforcement agency that used FREE patrol cars from Ford. They were E85 test vehicles. Crown Vic's, Taurus SHOs and V6 mustangs.
They were junk and crushed within 9 months of daily police use on E85.

There's issues with e85 and mfi injection. With some blends gunk can build up before the intake valves. This can cause the valves to not close among other things.

Solutions are running pump gas to dissolve the gunk build up. Or you can manually clean it.

With the ecoboost I don't think that will be an issue because it is directly injected into the combustion chamber.

It's a great fuel but it does have it's downsides

You do realize this is a direct injection setup, right?

Which engine are you talking about? This is the 5.0 thread. :)
My bad, saw the e85 question, and automatically thought eco (because of my truck). The 5.0 should just need injectors, and maybe a booster pump depending on boost setup (if you're running one).

Tons of misinformation here. E85 gets a bad rap as a "dirty" or gunky" fuel and it is anything but that. Ethanol is a great cleaner of your fuel system. This is where it CAN become and issue for cars with some miles on them. Any solids that have built up in the fuel tank from gasoline will be dissolved by the ethanol in E85. That can cause clogged fuel filters and injectors, if you have s new car without buildup this isn't any issue. Running e85 will keep your fuel system clean. Others will say that e85 will eat your fuel hoses and seals, but every vehicle built for the last decade and a half runs ethanol compatible fuel system components. It is the law. As far as how this applies to the 5.0 in the S550, there is enough fuel pump and injector to run e85 with the proper tune, as long as we are talking basic bolt on mods.

I have a decent amount of experience with it on the 3.5 Eco platform, but it's a completely different fuel system. What you say is definitely true, ethanol will clean rust off of a chrome bumper. It cleans about as good as methanol does when injected. Anything past basic bolt ons will require fuel system mods to keep up with the required flow rate. The added power and other benefits of ethanol is definitely worth it though.

As much as I'd like to believe that I have experience with fresh off the lot EVO and STIs that both succumb to this gunk issue.

With a tank of pump gas after every trackday or 4-5 tanks of e85 I have personally seen the gunk dissolve which is works for me.
