Reduce Rotating Mass & Unsprung Weight
Yes, do that. 😇

I spent over $2,000 and saved about 9 lbs on the hood.
That's priced like structural carbon fiber, cured in an autoclave and everything, and that's a lot less weight savings than I would expect. 🤨

Is the stock Mustang hood already pretty light?

Still too heavy, need more ideas with out chopping up the car. This is with full tank so figure 3699lbs. Terrible!

Coyote swapped Miata.

The hood won’t work anymore so further weight savings there lol.

My 6GR’s are 11 and 11 1/2 x 19’s. They had the Michelin 4’s on them, 305s front, 325 in the rear. When I bought the Mach1, I immediately swapped out the tires. I put the cup 2’s on the 6GR’s for track and the 4’s on the stock wheels for street. I swapped out the wheels last month for the track and decided to weigh them. I am sure the 4S tires are probably heavier than the cup 2’s though. All in lbs. Front was 62.5 vs 54, rear 64.1 vs 53.4. Total weight savings of 38.4 pounds. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the Braille battery. I do use it for street and track but I don’t drive it every day. So if I know it’s gonna sit for a few days I put it on the battery tender. Call there customer service if you have any questions, they are very good.

If you need more, I went Steeda tubular front K-member and Mike Maier lightweight tubular front control arms. I have to look for my book of weight savings but I believe it was approx 30 - 35 lbs removed for the k-member and another 10 lbs shaved from the control arms alone.

I installed Steeda’s billet suspension pieces at the back and shaved more weight with every piece over the factory parts. The Stainless Works LTH’s shaved quite a bit as well.

Not all my aftermarket parts, but the weight savings parts:

MMR billet lightweight water pump pulley
Steeda billet lightweight idler pulleys
BMR lightweight front bumper support
BMR lightweight rear bumper support
Livernois billet radiator brackets
Stainless Works LTH’s w/test pipes
Corsa double helixx X-pipe
Steeda road race tubular k-member
Mike Maier tubular lower control arms
Steeda adjustable engine mounts
Steeda billet rear camber arms
Steeda billet rear toe links
Steeda billet rear shock mounts
UPR billet IRS vertical links
McLeod RXT1200HD twin disk clutch w/ aluminum flywheel
QA1 carbon fiber driveshaft
Antigravity ATX20HD battery
OEM rear seat delete w/seat belt delete
Gutted trunk
Signature forged wheels
Raceseng titanium lug nuts

No real weight savings here, but helped the car ride on rails along with the spherical bearing upgrade up front with the tubular lower control arms.

Steeda Hardcore billet subframe bushings
Steeda hardcore Diff bushings
Steeda hardcore IRS Diff support
Steeda Diff bolt upgrade

Yes would like to know the the current weight. 2017 GT350 is listed at 3760lbs stock, 2021M1 3868lbs, 2024 Dark Horse 3879lbs. (going the wrong way)

So it was September 8th, 2015 and Ford was on the road show with the GT350 and GT350R and I was invited to Road America to participate. Anyway, I just finished an event one week earlier at Road America with my Boss 302R which weighed in at 3175lbs. So when asked how the GT350 drove, my first thought, it drives like a School Bus with a lot of power. That's what an extra 600lbs feels like on a road course, a boat anchor! I left thinking, I don't care how much power the engine has, weight is everything.

I'm not slamming the GT350 rather, just pondering companies like Porsche that over 60 years with the 911, they continually shave weight off (911R, 911 Touring, etc) and are super proud of saving 10kg.

These Mustangs are very heavy. Now the GTD should come in close to 3400lbs and will be a rocket ship.

Hi,

I think the above is what I had seen on some cars at Daytona, but not been able to source in the U.K.

Is this the type you got :

https://www.livernoismotorsports.co...by-gt500-heat-exchanger-brackets-black-finish

And do they fit a non 500 OK ? With the rad cover fitted ? (Any pictures ? :like:)

I had only found the UPR type - but they either weren’t in stock, or from sellers that wouldn’t ship to the U.K. :frown:

Cheers,

WD :like:

Kobe Addiction, that is an amazing amount of work. Is the car used for track only and what does it weigh in now?
Thank you for the kind words. This is a street driven vehicle and modded for my personal enjoyment, modding the Shelby keeps me sane Lol. I have not had the vehicle weighed with all of the modifications, but wouldn’t be a terrible idea to have it done out of curiosity.

Let me make some calls and see where the best place to get this done would be, I’ve always wanted to find out the weight but never made the attempt.

The GT350 definitely felt heavy when I first drove it, but I knew I’d find a way to shed the weight to make it more enjoyable. With the additional of the Whipple and the weight loss, it’s so much more fun to drive. The lighter wheels made the most noticeable difference.

Correct, that’s what I have. Everything fit perfect on the GT350. Closest shot I had on my phone is below.

A Shelby buddy of mine added the SPE brackets and the quality was very nice as well.

You're on the right track. Those boat anchors for wheels are a huge downer. One of the reason I believe the Mach1 showed no better acceleration times over a standard GT. Which Velgen wheels? They weigh more than their SVE counterparts. The QA1 DS I would probably skip...you are asking for problems and the amount of weight it saves may not be worth it. You can also save some static weight with reducing the weight from the exhaust. The factory exhaust weighs a ton. You can save another 25lbs by going with an X Pipe and a lighter axle back.

My base 300a PP1 car with just the savings of the wheel and tires made the car feel lighter on its feet. The wheels and tires along with the rotors can save an easy 70lbs of rotational mass and another 25+lbs with the exhaust. My 300a car is now down to 3720lbs.

How much weight did the hood save?
I beg to differ on the drive shaft. 20lbs vs 40, it's safer and less rotational mass(inertia). There is no down side except cost. The 13/14 shelbys used them. I have not heard of one failure. I suspect the newer GT500s have them as well.

Maybe the newer ones have gotten better. Are you sure about the weight savings? I thought it was closer to 12-13lbs for the MT82 18-23? I was considering the aluminum ones from Steeda.

I just bought one. It says 20lbs for the carbon fiber and the instructions say whe removing the old one, have a helper as it weighs 40lbs
