Purchased this funnel in an attempt to reduce/eliminate the mess when removing the oil filter. I’ve used a few things (punch hole in bottom to remove most oil, aluminum foil, bendable flat funnel, etc.) that helps reduce the mess, but thought I’d give this a try.

I took a filter out of the box and seems to fit well around the filter.

I have one of those for my motorcycles. I suppose it can be used on cars too. It ‘s cleaner, but it still makes a slight mess.

I saw it advertised for a motorcycle, but appeared to be approx the correct size.

Just an excuse to buy another tool. :-)

I just shove a bunch of absorbent towel around the filter when removing it and I don't get much mess.

Wasnt there a bendable rubber type sheet that you could mold to the shape you need to fit up in there that would allow you to channel the oils down and into a catch pan?

Possibly this, it’s what I use. 95% + clean every time. However I do stuff rags around everything and put a ziploc bag around the filter so I don’t spill any oil

How much oil is there to spill? I never did it, but considering the way the filter is mounted and how hard is it to get to it, if I was up to the task, I would definitely try the perforation method - wrapping the filter in a plastic bag, then punching a hole in its bottom and let it pour into the bag. Unscrew once emptied.

Yes, what’s that green thing called and where can you order it?

There is a fair amount in the filter, basically full of oil so punching a hole would drain that and what little there is when you unscrew it. I’m sure that would be less of a mess but I can only assume you would still have some mess

There are more than a few “solutions” for messy oil filter removal. I’ve been happy with the Oil Udder I bought a few years ago

IMHO, a much better, inexpensive alternative is to grab a piece of aluminum foil and form it in a trough shape.
You can always clean it for reuse, or clean and place in recycling. I just pitch mine.

Alright here’s the holy grail of oil filter removal, someone needs to try this. I would but just did my oil change last week
