Got my first ticket last yr for almost triple digits in a 55. Was reckless driving but lawyer got it dismissed today somehow lol. All that stressing and community service for nothing.

Going double the speed limit is reckless not speeding, I don’t care what time of day it is. Oh and by the way, if you watch the local news at all, when do a lot of those crazy single car accidents occur? Usually after midnight. What’s one of the common factors? Reckless speed.

There’s a big difference between speeding and reckless. And yes, I’ve gotten a speeding ticket in my younger days and no I wasn’t going triple digits.

We’re not throwing stones so much as passing along lessons we’ve learned in life. Coming onto an enthusiast forum and expecting sympathy for something that typically brings a negative connotation to the car community is naive at best. We get hammered enough for idiots leaving C&C and those morons that think takeovers are cool. Let’s not keep adding fuel to the fire for getting caught doing triple digits in the middle of the night too.

honestly not sure. He had me take a couple online classes, 50 hrs community service, and print out my driving record but the judge barely glanced at all that. He knew the cop and pulled him aside before we entered the courtroom but don't know what they said also said his lidar was off by 3mph

Also not sure why people think I'm lying or trying to trigger people lol. Been stressing about the outcome for a month and just glad it's all over, of course I learned my lesson. The way I see it at least I learned this lesson in my early 20s

We all know we've done wrong. Many of us learn from their mistakes and many of us don't. The police, the judge, nor the law make the choice for us whether we learn; we make the choice whether we will learn.

There have been times the best thing that happened to me was to get caught....and without someone getting hurt or killed, thankfully. Financial loss, and injury to myself seem to create greater moments of reflection for me. But not everyone reflects on what could have been (whether better or worse), and thus the different perspectives in this thread.

I appreciate the mercy I've been given over the years. I feel I'd have been a fool to savor the grace given me, only to see how I can outsmart the law....AND laws of nature again.

There are plenty of places and times of day in the US where the road is functionally the same as the Autobahn, better in fact as it is substantially wider with better runoffs. Are you saying that the best American driver is worse than the worst German driver and that Mustangs are inferior to the cheapest car available in the EU that can pass the German safety inspection? Or are you saying that all laws are to be blindly obeyed?

I have a 83 GT and we lived in the " country"..I was running wide open on a old paved road and topped a small hill probably doing 100 in a 45 so see 2 cars sitting side by side talking..Well before antilock brakes but luckily they heard me locking down my brakes and took off or I might not be here.
I learned a valuable lesson " don't be stupid anymore"

To the OP...I don't believe the negative comments about were directed at you, assuming you didn't have a moment of positive reflection. The comments embracing indulgence came from a few folks that maybe have not been blessed with a stop and think moment yet as you were and seem to have learned from. Growing up in a state/area where deer are prominent (PA), I think back to how fortunate I was many times my life was spared that I'll never know, going triple digits down our rural secondary roads...and at night. What a nut I was.

Speed limit in Cali freeways is 65 but everyone is cruising 80-85 cops don't generally care. Its pretty easy to get in the 90s if you not paying attention with how stable these cars feel at speed. I know to keep it under 100 to avoid getting reckless driving and loosing license. OP got lucky, its not worth it I use to love topping my cars out when I was 18-earl 20s. I got lucky as well live and learn.
