Torsen diff in the Mustang. No clutches.

Gear oil stinks fresh out of the bottle. Really bad. Like you don't want to change it anywhere near your own house bad.

I thought the 15/16s did Not have clutches?
The GT models with the PP, which have a Torsen diff, have no clutches. All others have traditional multiplate clutch LSD, which is the case for GTP, who asked the question I was replying to.

Gatorac, If you think gear oil smells bad, try straight up friction modifier...:D

I have a 16 PP. I'll be doing a track day in Houston in a little over a month. Car has almost 12k miles on it. Should I change the diff fluid to the 75-140?

Its not a bad idea. FWIW, my car didn't have overheating issues with the stock fluid and about 6-8k miles, but changing the fluid seems like cheap insurance against having a track day cut short due to temp issues.

That would get my vote. The evidence does suggest that 75W140 is a better lube for that purpose that the factory fill.

Yeah, the car will be doing 4 20-min sessions per day and I'm basically a newb as I haven't been on track in years and even then it was a fox body car.

I guess at 12k miles I should probably do the brake fluid and my oil will be ready to be changed by then, too.

Is it MSR Houston Sept 24-25? I'll be there as well.

I changed it to 75-140 this weekend as I ran 75-90 in July and had temp warnings.

Yes it is. Did you change it yourself?

Yes I changed it. Get a hand pump that fits a quart bottle. I used Amsoil. Others have been using some stuff from Optimum Performance. Also change the brake fluid. At 12k its a safe bet.

See you at the track.
