Is there a plug or connection to be made on the mirror? I haven't looked back there so I wouldn't know, lol!
You need a mirror tap. I just got one on Amazon for $20 or something like that. Then I bought a mirror mount, also from amazon, so the detector sits under the mirror. Pretty clean. I hated all the wires everywhere when I had it plugged into my cigarette lighter. I recommend this method.

Currently using a Passport x80. Works very well. The Escort also has a app called Escort Live which I use as a display on the Phone. In all honesty, closely check the WAZE app and police reported locations gives you an added layer of visibility on the road ahead. I keep the Escort app on the iphone and waze on the infotainment screen for the tactical overview

Curious to hear more opinions.

Uniden seems to be the thread favorite. I was also considering an escort detector.

Is there any advantages of uniden over escort, or visa versa?

Mine is also tapped into the mirror, though I couldn't do the mirror mount, because my camera is just below the mirror housing. The R7 would block the view into the cabin. So it sits just to the left of and behind the mirror housing. I'll snap a picture, just for giggles.

Laser is a light and is not governed by the FCC as it’s not a radio signal so their use is governed by state law, not federal.

OP, check out Vortex Radar on YouTube and website. He does tons of unbiased reviews and even recommends detectors based on what role you need it to fill as some are better suited for city driving vs. highway driving.

Please do, would like to see a picture.

Light is electromagnetic radiation which is also what radio signals are. They are the same thing.

I'll just leave this here.
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

LOL yes they are both radiation but they are NOT the same thing. Might as well say apples and oranges are the same thing since they are both fruit sprouted from trees.

But it seems you missed the entire point of my post in that “radiation” in the frequencies of light does not fall under the spectrum governed by the FCC. The FDA regulates laser usage. So excuse the hell out me for saying “radio signal” instead of “frequencies”. 🙄

anyone else wanna @ me? Bring it.

That’s cute, way to further the conversation. I’m glad you posted that since the first letter in LASER is “light” and not “radio” Hence the difference between RADAR and LIDAR. Thanks for playing.

I’m telling you that’s not how it works. You’re using a laser to create harmful emissions. That law doesn’t specify the frequency of the emission as part of its legality. Light is is just high frequency radio waves that you have evolved to be able to see.

I’m not gonna stop you from running a jammer, I don’t care what you do, but the idea that since it’s a laser that you’re safe is wrong.

the FCC doesn’t fuck around, they have fined people for far less than this.

Look I don't want this thread to turn into anything crazy but Lasers Jammers are controlled by the FDA. Radar Jammers are controlled by the FCC.

I don't think we need to get in an argument about how they work, because at the end of the day who cares, lol. But to anyone who compares a radio wave to a laser (typically ultraviolet) wave on the electromagnetic spectrum and says they are the same thing is going to get laughed at. Sure they are similar, but accomplish very different goals and have very different effects on people and their surroundings. Hence why they are governed by different bodies.:like:

BE AWARE with mirror taps. Some detectors now use 5v USB power (almost all dash cams use 5v). I ordered 12v in 5v out adapters for our cameras. Also, if you have rain sensing wipers or front collision avoidance, you'll find switched 12 volts in the sensor housing forward of the mirror (the mirror will not have a connection point).

Youtube tutorial for mustangs with forward sensors.

Search isn't helping right now with tap points on mirror pictures, but wire colors should be:
Black for 12vdc
Brown/yellow for ground

Changed from other brands to Valentine when it first came out. Terrific quality, engineering (Mike Valentine is an engineer), and overall performance. No need to make the application complex.
I can leave it on the floor and it still does the job, for me anyway. Travel all over and almost never run into laser, so I don't conern myself with it.
