I've used radar detectors for many years in my cars. Now the new Mustang doesn't have a high-mount electric receptacle like before, so it will be more difficult to just plug in your detector and go.

I think a cleaner solution is hard wiring on the new Mustang. I know there are some electrical connections in the mirror coming from the ceiling. Can we tap off these or is there a better way to do it?

I am looking for a switched, off when ignition is off, power source to hardwire my Escort. Any ideas??

I had a Valentine 1 hardwired to my fuse box using their hard-wire kit. I have an Escort Max2 now that works with the same hard-wire kit since both use the same RJ11 connections. Escort sells there own hard-wire kits too. Buy a "Add a Circuit" from any auto parts store and use the radio fuse to jump off of. Run the cord up the A pillar and alone the headliner above the windshield. I have mine mounted up above and to the left of the rear view mirror. Mine turns off when I shut the car off or if I have the radio off.

Here's a good tutorial that shows how it's done:

hardwire radar detector

Unsnap the interior light panel by the Mirror and you can get a ground and a hot wire The hot stays powered on for about 10 min after exiting car then it shuts down I have a bell Tronics 300 radar detector connected to it and it powers off after about 10 minutes and works fine

Finally found a source that turns on & off with Push Button (aka Key)...

1. You need to pull the overhead lights down (grab from windshield side and pull down).
2. You will find a wire that is secure ( use needle nose to work plastic holder out) that runs down to the mirror
3. Disconnect back of connector on mirror
4. Carefully remove plastic holder covering wire to mirror
5. Go close to the plastic holder in overhead light opening
6. Carefully cut cloth tape (be careful its strong and you can cut wire easy)
7. Find Purple and Yellow wire (POSITIVE 12v when turned on)
8. Find Green and black (Negative)
9. Connect Radar wire...I used BUTT Splices, and taped harness back together.

UPDATE: ALSO TURNS OFF IN REVERESE...ARGH...

Good Luck, and I hope this helps...I did not take any photos sorry.
