The capacitor will be bolted to the block. It needs to be grounded.

I'm 99% sure it is the IGN capacitor. You should hook it back up as it can cause issues with module communication

The only other things back there are IMRC valves, knock sensors and crank sensor.

Are you tuned? is your IMRC's hooked up in the tune? Can you log? if you can log IMRC and Knock.
Yes I'm tuned from VMP, I do have the IMRC's still hooked up with a plug and play kit from VMP. I can try to log as I still have my tuner with me.

Ignition capacitor? Will that mess me up if I keep driving in it like that?

Ford would not put it there if it was not needed. (disclaimer)

It suppresses RF noise. This is mostly heard in the AM radio mode. RF noise can disrupt communications between the various computers in the car.

So it can cause problems, most likely won't.

If it was my car I would fix it.

I'm sure if the wire was for the knock sensor or the IMRC it would throw a check engine light. I would log those parameters to make sure they are working. The tuner could have turned off the light.

Any pointers to a good set of instructions on how to put it back inside the connector?

You will have to remove the part that is still in the plug. After you get it out you should be able to remove the water proofing stuff and then send the wire through the plastic part, secure it in the water proofing and slide it back into the plug shell. Then plug it into the capacitor.

It will make more sense after you remove the half plug

And as long as the plug end at the engine (ie: the sensor) isn’t damaged (pins inside it’s plug) as well as the wiring under the conduit was not torn, stretched or broke - it should all go back together without any issues. If you get it all back together and you get an illuminated DTC for that exact item - the. It’s related to the initial pull when it yanked out of the plug.
