Are the pistons for the 350 block different?

I'm thinking of getting an engine stand, block, pistons, rods gaskets then swapping my crank and heads over to have a stronger motor.

Think this is reasonable plan?

I am sorry. I don't know what you mean?

I think you're suggesting I stay with the S550 block?

What kind of HP could I put through an S550 block with say Manle Pistons and I Beam rods stock crank, (should I port/polish heads?)

Trying to get as much as I can get outta this car while still being driveable/reliable.

as someone who has been drag racing for 25 years and built his own motors
in his garage.......
Best advise I could say is never build over a long period of time
Save the money and buy the parts and start building, waiting or paying it down
over a long period of time is not only painful by the time your done you can
be obsolete and better parts came out for the build you are building.

and you can change your mind and end up trying to sell new parts for 50 cents on the dollar which is about what you can expect if you want to go into a new direction

Buy the engine stand ,buy the heads, order up the short block and head to the
machine shop, have that sucker done in 4 months
LOL
You can say that again.

I just finished having the stock block I lost my in on3 car rebuilt with Manle pistons and rods .
Rebuild was done by a buddy (who has built many motors ) so saved some coin there .
I reused the block /crank and bought Manle rods and Pistons, head and main studs,Billet OPG and crank gear from MMR during their 10 % sale .

I had originally sold the block and parts to him after I thought I was trading in the car but was fortunate he agreed to sell them back to me when I ended up keeping the car.
I will be using a GT350/5.2 oil pump(replacing the gears) and oil pan with special pick up tube .

Including cost of machining($500) and the parts I bought, total cost of block assembled is less than $3k.:headbang:

I am switching FI from on3 TT(selling will help cover some of my cost)to a 3.2KB/8 rib /long tubes with triple pump return fuel system and plan on 18 psi with E85 .I will also be installing an RXT with engine R&R which will save some labour .Also replacing blow fish bracket with MGW.
I will also be swapping DSS axles(now on Hellion car) with the Ford racing one .

........ But now thinking of selling the built block and building a GT 350 block.:headbonk:

Any takers?
On your block? How much you want for it? How many miles on the build?

Are those I Beam rods or H?

Anything else a newbie needs to know?

H rods.No miles on engine-short block was just finished and is not installed.

Send me a PM if interested so as not to hijack OP's thread.

Just mulling the idea really(my buddy may kill me if I tell him I want to sell the

block) but I was just thinking about it since I would be retuning for the KB anyway.

It would be also nice to have the extra displacement.

I priced out a 3.5 block build@MMR for anyone interested : it would be

$2300(lowest price I have seen) for the bare block and about $2100 for the

balanced rotating assembly ($300 for balancing).

I figure little or no machining required.

if you do oil pump with billet gears+crank sprocket add another $700.

May be another $100 for rod bearing.

Head and main studs(not required but would be nice) would be another $600.

to assemble parts(if you are technically challenged like me) probably another

$600.

So you could have a built 5.2 block with OPG gears/crank sprocket for a little

more than the cost of an alluminator. Head, main studs and billet crank gear

would also be additional cost to alluminator.

The 5.2 block has the reenforced cylinder walls and spray liner so I figure it will be stronger/better than the allumintor block(same as stock) and you get the extra displacement...... and you can but a "5.2" badge on your car.

From what I have seen if you don't address the cylinder walls on high HP applications you may as well keep the stock rotating assembly. They seem to be about equal in strength

?
forged (Manle/Mahle) pistons and rods ARE not equal in strength to the stock ones.

I am saying the stock rotating assembly is equal in strength to the stock cylinder walls, not aftermarket rods and pistons. The blocks seems to be hit or miss with some getting lucky. A few have busted cylinder walls but the stock rods and pistons still look great.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this. Seems aluminator pricing is out of control, and other vendors block have huge mark up when you could build the same block for much less.

Should I build a block sell my stock block or ride my block til it pops?

If I build a block, what could I get for about 4k and how much horsepower will it handle? Both on 93 and e85?

I'm estimating I can run 8s in the quarter with 1100 or so rear wheel horsepower right?

I'm hoping to hit 9.99 soon ish then start hunting 8s. I gotta work on my driver mod.

Build your short block you can do it all for 3 grand or so, do piston and rods setup and Install sleeve supports
