Do the S550 GT's require premium gas or can you run 87?

You will get flamed for sure on this site asking about running 87 in a GT. Be prepared.... People will ask why you didn't buy an Ecoboost or Prius if your worried about economy or cost savings.... You can run 87, but you car will be a little down on power. Also, just think about it. Gen 3 Coyote, High Compression, Direct Injection, and 87 just don't sound good in the same sentence …..

Leave the Ecoboost out of it. The turbo cars need premium more than the NA V8.
Oh i get it. I daily a 2011 SHO with the 3.5 Ecoboost, but like i said. People on this site..... I didn't shame it myself.....

in stock form I believe both GT and EB run fine on 87 through 93.

question,

for an ecoboost in stock form, 87 to 93 is about a 40hp difference.
how much of a difference in HP is it from 87 to 93 in a stock gt?

curious which one actually pulls more pure power in the end.

here's a kicker- I think the largest issues with engines blowing would be from. cars that are learned on 93 octane, ran bone dry, and then someone tosses 87 in, and before the car has a chance to learn the new fuel octane, they floor it, and boom. it thinks it has 93 and it finds out it has 87.

I don't know how fast our cars really detect all that, or if when we refill if it automatically tries to detect new octane.

But! ford perf tune, I asked about my car going across country and lack of 91/93. they told me, the ford perf tune on ecoboost actually has Octane adjustment enabled, meaning, while its advertised 91/93 only. if I put 87 in it, DO NOT FLOOR IT and let the car relearn the new octane, he said they don't advertise any thing less than premium because people will do exactly what I asked about a minute ago and detonate.

but he said if I did need to travel across country, 87 is fine, just baby it and stay out of the boost. the car will relearn it, but he said they recommend just baby'ing it til I can get high quality fuels, and then again, let the car relearn the octane before romping on it.

My main reason for asking is cause the wife will be driving it and i know she will never remember to use premium. Wanted to know if 87 if put in if i need to worry about it.

Well I can attest regular gas makes the gt slightly less powerful as well as shift differently

It's fine to use 87. Lately I've just been commuting with cruise control 60-70mph so I've been putting 87 in. Runs fine.

The car manual says 87 too. But 93 for the best performance.

I only run Shell 93 vpower or BP 93 invigorate not just for the higher octane, these premium fuels have more detergents in them than regular or mid grade .

I wouldn’t worry bout it. Especially way up there. I only use 93 in hot summer months and I can’t tell any difference in power or better mpg. It does run smoother on 93 when’s it’s hot. But in cool weather I can’t tell a difference.

Solution #1 Plaster these around the car - https://www.ebay.com/itm/3037948182...daPN9fe7Ymr61ZrMsapo_Wyi6T_aJPIRoC_eEQAvD_BwE

Solution #2. Never let your wife drive the car with anything but a full tank.
Solution #3. Don't let your wife drive your car if she cannot remember what gas to put into it.
