What’s wrong with using him
I am personally a fan of Lund and their service. However, Rob learned how to tune by blowing people's shit up and trial by fire. I would avoid him.

I hadn’t heard that, I’ve heard a lot of negative about Lund though. I guess they all can’t make everyone happy. I bought a e85 tune from Ortiz as well when I got the kit, so I’ll prob have him do his own tunes as well

I'm almost done with the process of Lund tuning my car. Honestly, they're direct, to the point and realistic. They've been quick to make the adjustments I need. Car has never run better. Around town drivability is amazing. People may not like some of the things Alex says but he ain't wrong either.

That’s good to know, I’ve seen a lot of good comment on Lund too. Honestly I don’t have an issue with Lund. I bought a Ortiz tune from beefcake when I bought everything. And the shop installing my stuff highly suggested shoemaker.

Lund has its fair share of haters, mainly because of Lund's attitude. They are the highest volume coyote tuner, so they know what works and what doesn't. When someone has a one-off, weirdly made, or incorrectly made kit, they will say it doesn't work. People don't like hearing that and they want 42 revisions to get to what they want.

Also, I think some people don't like that Lund's files are locked and can't be adjusted by the customer (but I think everyone lock/encryps their files). And there are also just a lot of people that hate whoever is on top.

I am sure Ortiz will get you straight.

Allow me to retort. Lund specifies the way THEY want to tune the car and they insist on components that THEY are comfortable using. What does that mean? Well, it's not a stretch to say they insist on certain manufacturers and components because they're getting shit for free. Might not be what you want or what you have a budget for or whatever, but they dictate to customers what to run. If that works for you great, in some instances it doesn't.

Lund is great. Until they're not. Admittedly, MOST people are happy with them. But if you're the unlucky person who has issues, they'll blame it on the mechanical every time. And only after you've spent time and money chasing ghosts will they even CONSIDER it's a tune problem.

The problem I have with Lund is that you're a ticket. You're an account. You can't call them on the phone and if anything doesn't go EXACTLY how they've encountered in the past, it's going to be a real pain in the ass for you. For 99.9% of people out there it's not an issue.

Also, it's such a breath of fresh air to have open control to my tune now. (for other reasons I won't get into).

I intended to use Lund, but they wouldn't tune it because I wasn't featuring the fuel system they wanted. They're stuck in 2010. I had problems with their dedicated race E85 tune and after getting frustrated, I went back to their flex tune and the issue went away. I should have ditched them then, but I reached out to them for my blower build.

At any rate, if you're happy with Lund great. But they're not all roses and perfect. There have been others who've DOCUMENTED their frustrations.

Not everyone is some newb idiot wanting to run chinese knock off injectors on their car or gimmicks. Hell, Lund is into PCMtech now, imagine what it was like for the first person to ask them to tune a PCMtech car?

If you have a cookie cutter, been done 10,000 times build, then Lund should be a top choice. If you want to do ANYTHING different, my suggestion is to pick someone else.

It is absolutely true to say that they specify the way they want things to get done; namely because they have spent time trying to make cheap fuel systems perform, cheap injectors, cheap ported this or that, etc.

I can see both sides on the issue side: (1) they tune thousands of cars, and unless you have a strange rare issue, the tune didn't magically change; (2) on the other hand, like you said, why is something working on the flex but not on the E85R tune - maybe the file was corrupted some how (idk).

I don't have a problem with being a ticket. They are the biggest tuning shop. From what I have heard, they used to answer calls. But after hearing about how you got into mustangs from your dad and you almost bought a focbody but let it get away, and your wife wont go down on you anymore...they hid the number. I don't blame them at all. The ticket system is efficient, I get fast replies, and I think the majority of companies have switched to that system.

I know PCMTech licensed with Lund (or the other way around) so that PCM could break into the US market. Lund did the R&D and greatly helped PCMTech, so it was certainly a mutually beneficial relationship.

People certainly have issues with Lund, just like any other tuner, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease and thousands of customers a year will lead to a few upset ones.

P1 tuners do PCM tech now too and it isn’t for Lund money.

You said it. They're not a custom tuner. They're a canned tuner. Which is fine, if you want a canned setup.

Call it wisdom on their part, call it laziness or efficiency (of not wanting to have to actually develop a custom tune from scratch) call it kickbacks from vendors and suppliers that feed their racing division, call it whatever you want, but to dismiss every outside the box build as "cheap" is incomplete and misleading. My fuel system costs MORE than a Fore System (at the time). They weren't even interested. Why? Because they probably get free shit from Fore, they're probably lazy and don't want to be bothered to actually have to do more than cut and paste and to your point, they probably assume that everything that's not inside their little world is dumbass and the wrong way.

Pick your poison on the above. My point stands. If you want a CUSTOM tune, with CUSTOM service (and not have to repeat yourself 15 fucking times every time a new tuner on their staff looks at a ticket and asks you "is this a built motor" or "what's done to the car" because he's too lazy to go through the file history and it's easier to just make you repeat it...............again.............if you want an experience where you can call and discuss options or challenges or have an exchange on particular features of your build, the Lund isn't the shop for you.

Lund is the McDonald's of tuners. They make more burgers than anyone else. They fling them out. If you're willing to pay extra and want an actual tuner as a service, go with someone with more access.

If you're slapping on a set of headers and an intake and a cookie cutter stage 1 blower setup with a BAP, they're a good option. If you're doing ANYTHING remotely outside their comfort zone, go with someone else.
