Yeah but why create more heat with that smaller pulley if you don’t need to?
Well for starters you can limit the 93 boost using the flex logic. Secondly I’m on the 3.25 pulley and the big Whipple intercooler does such a good job pulling the temps down, it still runs 20 deg cooler than a Roush setup does on stock boost. In fact, I can’t say that I’ve been able to measure a temp increase at the higher boost.

That said, my preferred method of managing knock on 93 is to retard the timing so that’s mostly how I handle it on my car.

I just run e20 on the 93 tune and that handles knock and keeps all that timing I should be getting for 93.

I ask because with flex taking a skilled tuner can either pull timing on 93 or pull boost. Either would negate the need to swap pulleys.
Planning on using shoemaker

I run around on the 3.25 pulley and flex tune. I pull a good bit of timing on 93 and even limit boost.

Don’t get your hopes up for 770. It’s not typical on 93 and I would be suspicious. That sounds like a Boostane and/or optimal conditions number. Most hit knock limits under 700. I’m in that 750+ now on the 3.25 pulley on true 93 after literally years of tuning, several dyno sessions, etc.

See if you can find a “pro” tuner that will do a flex tune with boost limiting on 93.

Honestly if I can get around 700 to wheels in 93 I’d be happy. E 85 I’d like to push 850+ if possible. This isnt my daily so if I need to throw octane additive or some e85 in each tank while on 93 that wouldn’t be a big deal. Just want to have the option to keep it not drivable from time to time. Until I get wider wheels and better tires the 700 I’m sure will be plenty. The shop that’s helping me on the install suggested go with rob shoemaker for the tuning so I’m going to go that route. My dad put a coyote in a f100 and is now putting a whipples yote in his 67’ fairlane so this is just something to have fun with him.

850 on E is doable with the listed mods. 700 is really doable on 93, just watch doing back to back runs on hot days. That top ring gap is very tight and gets tighter the more heat you put to the top of the piston. You do it enough times and bad things man...

Wow yea good advice, I know at some point down the road I may have to cross that line but would like to not have to do that for a little while. I’m guessing the 700 on 93 power level is much harder on the motor that e85 at the 850+ mark.

I’ve ready a lot about mixing in a gallon or two of e85 to help with knock on 93, worth doing? Or just use a octane booster?

I’ve used both. I’d go with 2-3 gallons of e85 over octane booster.

That piston wasn't damaged by knock, that's from the ring gap closing because of the heat of combustion building up.

Perhaps. I think it would have taken a little more than a splash to have saved me that day.

You never know. But its better than nothing. 93 even with boostane isnt going to cool the fuel charge. But the E will. Or Meth or something like that.

I know one thing, I gapped the new motor for boost and I will run it 99% of the time on at least e70 so it won't ever happen again.

That is the correct way of doing things!
