Just trying to get feed back on what everyone will think I can make on a 93 and e85 tune. I list mods going on next month

Gen 5 3.0 whipple
3.5” griptec(will swap to 3.3” on e85)
ID 1050
Fore level 2
132 mm tb
Whippe CAI
Long tubes
H pipe
3” corsa extreme
Oversized heat exchanger
Brisk RR 12S plugs

And what I could do next to make the biggest bang? I live down the street from the owner of Frankenstein so I’ve thought about porting the heads and better springs. Just didn’t know if it was worth it at this point.

Cats or no cats?

And is there a particular reason you want to swap pulleys for different fuels?

No reason to push power on 93 octane further than 650whp to 680/700 max. High HP 93 on this motor is dumb in my opinion. On E85 with 14-15 psi, I think mid to high 800s is achievable.

I thought to play it safe on 93, but both pulleys use same belt so a quick swap wouldn’t be hard. Maybe I’m over thinking it

I ask because with flex taking a skilled tuner can either pull timing on 93 or pull boost. Either would negate the need to swap pulleys.

Are any of the big shop tuners offering flex with boost?

Got a guy with a 2021 GT, with a 3.0 whipple in our local group. Billet OPG and Crank sprocket. Texas speed catless long tubes, corsa extreme, 10R80 car, not sure what else has been done honestly. He puts the dyno graph out at car shows. His dynoed at 770 on 93. I believe Wengerd tuned his car. It's really nasty, in a good way :) I believe he has over 40k miles on his car now, probably at least half of those boosted.

That’s promising, I was hoping to be in the 700-750 range on 93 and then 850+ on e85

So you think just run around on the 3.35 pulley?

I run around on the 3.25 pulley and flex tune. I pull a good bit of timing on 93 and even limit boost.

Don’t get your hopes up for 770. It’s not typical on 93 and I would be suspicious. That sounds like a Boostane and/or optimal conditions number. Most hit knock limits under 700. I’m in that 750+ now on the 3.25 pulley on true 93 after literally years of tuning, several dyno sessions, etc.

See if you can find a “pro” tuner that will do a flex tune with boost limiting on 93.

My stage 2 whipple 3.0 2017 stick car is right at 700 to the tires on 93 with the 3.875 pulley the kit comes with. ~11psi of boost. That was with stock headers, cats and just a cat-back on the car on the whipple tune. The datalog showed 21* of timing! I would not push it anymore than 11psi on 93 unless there are significant tune changes as mentioned. My car has longtubes and free flowing exhaust now. I do put some boostane in the tank when racing.

Winter plans are full return style fuel system and put the car on e85. I plan to drop down to the 3.5" pulley which is ~14psi of boost and hoping to be around 800 to the tires. If I go back on 93 for any reason, I'll put the 3.875 pulley back on.

Yeah the 3.5 pulley is way to small for 93. You need to stick with that 3.775/3.875 pulley for 93. Then when you get E, you can drop it and make 800 or more.

@J17GT the gen3’s don’t get anywhere near 21 deg timing before encountering knock. I think 17 is max on the Whipple tune.

@ZXMustang you can use smaller pulleys on 93 and add boost limiters as part of the flex logic.
Yeah but why create more heat with that smaller pulley if you don’t need to?
