. The biggest thing in the USA is people drive the left lane as a lane and not a passing lane thus screwing up the faster traffic.
On 495 and 66 the road signs have this phrase about left lane is not for cruising. Thing is we're already at 20moh over and passing the next lane at a reasonable closing speed - say 7mph.

Every so often some guy will come up peek around the side and see there is an unholy 4 second gap in front of me. And then use a gap that was entirely too small to zip around and blast his way across the void. Only to be stymied for the next 10 miles.

I think there are just people who can't see past their nose, can't anticipate and can't observe and plan. If there is more than 6ft in front of them, they are compelled to close it with haste.

This is such an underrated statement. I can get irritated on the road at times, much like everyone else. It’s calmed down a bit but there was a time not all that long ago where you’d hear on the local news of road rage incidents gone to the extreme where the drivers start shooting at each other. Luckily I haven’t seen that personally but I have seen people basically run someone else off the road at interstate speeds, all because someone cut someone else off, horns honked and middle fingers flew. It’s just not worth it, no matter how bad of a day we might be having and how angry it makes us
Thumbs downing someone gets them more riled up than a middle finger usually does now. That's what I do if someone does something stupid around/near me

There are a few roadways in the ATL area where it says keep moving. I know a person who hit someone and the driver who stopped was ticketed.
Hmmmm, in Atlanta I would have expected them both to get tickets...
Most Atlanta cops are asshats and the surrounding areas are not much better.

I think it's a safety thing...you're coming off the interstate exit and going right at a high speed. The one close to me isn't high speed, but a traffic flow problem that gets worse when people stop.

Oh, I know the kinds of places you mean. I'm just surprised both didn't get ticketed. One for stopping/obstructing traffic flow and the other for following to closely. Seems like that jurisdiction lost out on some revenue...

Not going to call anybody out, but if you're being passed on the right or being tailgated in left lane while there is space it the right lane, you are in the wrong place on the road. This part of the driving culture is very unfortunately non-existent in North America.
Honestly wish cops would pull people over for driving in the left lane and not getting over/speeding up to get around someone so they can get over. Probably my biggest irritation on the road is when someone is driving like an idiot and pacing someone in the right lane so nobody can get around on EITHER side

I can't speak to other parts of the country, but here in FL if you hit another vehicle from behind it is your fault, regardless of the circumstances. They may make exceptions for extenuating circumstances, i.e. if the other car was left unattended on a pubic throughway with no lights or flashers on, and it was at night with no nearby street lights (this situation was actually witnessed by my brother), but most of the time, if the other vehicle has a driver in it and the engine is running, and you hit it from behind, even if it stopped for no good reason you will be the one cited. Any argument about it with the cop, and they will likely quote the drivers test handbook that states the driver must be in control of their vehicle at all times and maintain a safe distance from the vehicles in front of them.
This is why I run a dashcam. You have proof if someone is acting like a fool and causes you to rear end them or if they're brake checking or whatever the circumstances are. Hopefully it wouldn't happen as I tend to leave more than adequate space in everything I drive where I should be able to stop or do a control swerve/stop

In a lot of instances, I think it comes down to times are tough for many people. Things are expensive. Wages in many cases are lower. Pressure at home. Pressure at work. They made choices years ago that did not quite pan out and now they are feeling stuck. Then these folks get behind the wheel and are simmering.

Then in their mind someone in a fairly pricey and shiny performance vehicle (whose driver made different choices) performs a maneuver that really is benign but to their already simmering mind it is offensive. And then it starts.
I think an equally large factor is that people are in such a hurry and never leave enough time (or dare I even say extra time) to get where they need to be on time and in a safe manner. When I was commuting via the interstates (15+ years up until early 2018), I would see folks shaving, doing their makeup, typing on their phones and even reading newspapers on a daily basis. And driving like a bat out of hell on top of it because they were likely late. And if someone dared to pass them, they would lay on the horn like passing is a crime or something. Humans are just strange sometimes 🤷🏻‍♂️

or if they're brake checking
Your dash cam doesn't pick up what is in front of the car you are tailgating.

Officer... "Why did you hit your brakes?"

Me... "A squirrel darted in front of me."

Officer... "If you had run over the squirrl you wouldn't have got rear ended, and probably no damage"

Me.. " If he wasn't following too close, the squirrel and the cars would not be damaged"

The problem is our society is becoming more trashy, irresponsible and reckless every day, people just don't give a $hit about behaving in a responsible and civilized manor.

We are a garbage society, and it's getting much worse very quickly.

This incident has made me think seriously about getting front and rear dashcams. If nothing else it sure would have made my original post more entertaining...
