When you are using oil.. are you seeing any black residue on the tail pipes?

Also.. on the dip stick.. between the two dots.. what does that equate to in quarts ?

Just checked my oil.. car has 1100 miles on it.. oil was just below the first dot (from full) and catch can has some oil in it. It was probably 20/25 minutes after sitting.
I would think so, but can't say for sure since mine uses no oil.

1 quart.

Exhaust tips eventually get black. There is no way around it. It depends on how many miles you drive.

Based on my unscientific but repeated tests, the distance between top of the hashmark to top hole is equal to 1/4 quart. So you can divide the top and bottom hole into 4 equal sections each measuring 1/4 quart of oil.

I dont understand how you guys are getting top of the hashmarks after oil change. I always get top hole.

10 quarts only gets me 1/2 way between the holes just like the OP's picture. I leave it there.

Hmm, sounds like we’re having a dipstick measuring contest. Maybe they aren’t all equal.

Is anyone taking an account for the oil cooler and lines? Not sure how much is them. Mine has 1500 miles and doesn’t appear to be burning any oil thus far. It’s been on track and driven hard and also taken road trips. Oil level has always been normal.

Good question. I know that when I did the oil changes on my Hellcat I chose to drain the oil cooler. About 8-9 ounces came out. Many owners didn’t choose to drain the cooler but I always thought why wouldn’t you get that 4K old oil out? I wonder if the GT350 has a drain plug for the cooler.

1500 miles is too soon to notice. Mine didn't consume any oil the first 4000 miles or so.

Hahahhahahaha...hands down, best comment thus far! Come on guys, were not breeding pandas here. Debating the difference between the top of the hash marks and the top hole is ounces...single digit ounces at that. Debating any difference from not being on completely laser level ground is ounces. And I for damn sure am not getting a level out and getting my car all set up in a jig to check the oil level. And I will tell you mine has never been above the hash marks...level...ever. Learn what is full for YOUR car and sleep well.

What tends to get missed in all this discussion is that the only thing that actually matters is that the oil is above the lower hole in the dipstick. That's it. If it's above the lower hole, put the dipstick back in and drive on. If it's below the bottom hole, then add a quart. That's it.

And something about the cross hatch facing the motor when taking a reading. Don't know if the cross hatch position is true or not, but that was what I was told.
I've noticed this too. Depending which way I insert the dipstick, crosshatch facing towards/away from the engine, the oil level will be slightly more or slightly less.

I measured 1 ounce of oil coming out of my separator between changes and I couldn't even detect it on the dip stick.

Very interesting discussion. I am also in the check it the same way every time camp. After ten quarts are added at oil change, it should be full - mark it if you like. Then, after driving, I pull into my fairly level garage, get out and ask Alexa to let me know when 15 minutes is up; then check the oil level (hash marks to engine - it does make a difference). Then, I do it again the next day. And the next... To me the important point is the difference between readings and is the level above/below the lower hole. I became an expert at this exercise after four oil consumption tests and a new Voodoo.

Hey Mate,

Quick question,
Just did an oil change, drove back home and checked the oil level. It's slightly above the top hole of the dipstick.

My location doesn't allow me to do my oil changes, hence I need to take it to a garage.

Should I drain a bit of oil to lower it or is it OK to run?
If its harmful, I may have to take the car on a truck to the garage..

Thanks!
