Believe it or not- but one of the major misses imo is the absence of an onboard oil level indicator. The moment the oil pressure drops you're mostly too late.. also, the fantasticly engineerd dipsticklocation together with the strut, require patience and time to measure.

So, anyone know about options to install an aftermarket oil level sensor and gauge? I've seen options for the through 96 stangs, but thats it

Id guess the baffled oil pan makes it hard.. But that is shocking.

I wonder how many quarts you can run low with out issue im guessing its more then 2.

With the known consumption of this engine, you would think owners would take the time to check the oil regularly. I check mine before I drive at the beginning of the day and I have owned two 350's now and no problems. Top off evrey time it is just a tad low so there is never more than a half quart low. If that. Maybe there should be a button that does everything for you. Oh wait!!! Ford is working on automated vehicles....lol

I would think that you could go 3 to 5 quarts down without loosing oil pressure and have any detrimental impact on engine components. Of course that would apply under normal driving conditions and not driving long distances. Ford designed the 10 quart capacity in these engines to improve oil life under stressful track conditions and feed the additional 1.5 quart capacity of the cooling system.

I get where you are coming from being a mechanic and all. I also get it is a high performance "race engine" talk, but I still think it is nuts how often that you need to check the oil on this thing. I check it 2-3 times a week.

I have a possible dumb question for you since you are a mechanic. The hood latch pull doesn't feel like a very strong assembly. Any worry about snapping that prematurely from opening the hood so often? If so, does anybody know how hard it is to replace?

Novice here, just today, i received a check engine oil. Last time i got that, i went ahead and got the oil changed that same day. Mind you, i do check and add oil as needed. My question is when the message comes on, how many quarts are left?

Check engine oil or change engine oil?

The change is mileage driven. Mine is on and I have changed the oil 2 times already at 5000 miles.
