What is considered a "normal" or "average" oil consumption rate for these cars?

I consume between 1 - 1.5 quarts between oil changes.

I have a '19 with the "R" engine, and I also have put 37,000 miles on my engine.

The rate of consumption has remained consistent since purchase.

My Cayman has NEVER used a drop in 5 years...................... I like my Shelby over the Porsche...!!!

PORSCHE DISCLAIMER
The Cayman is quicker 0-60, it handles better in the corners, it gets better fuel mileage.............. but it does NOT sound like Chewbacca Gargling during acceleration................ it NEVER gets old!!!!! GOD bless the Ford Performance Engineers......... you folks nailed it!
Stuttgart, you have some work to do!

Has anyone here ever tore down and/or rebuilt one of these engines (or know someone who has)?

If the level of oil is at or just below the bottom of the hatched area of the dipstick, is it safe to drive (in a moderate fashion, not track)?

The R engine is different from the standard GT3550 until 2019 when Ford decided to use one engine. This is well established here

Im sure its fine to drive it slightly below the hatched area but Im not sure why you would.

Ford says 500 miles per quart is acceptable.

Keep a quart or two on hand incase you run into this situation. Add oil as needed.

From the Owner's manual:

From the GT350 Basics sticky:
  • According to the March 2017 Shelby Supplement pg. 48, oil consumption of "approximately 1 quart per 500 miles"while "driving high performance vehicles in such a way that might lead to higher oil consumption (this includes extended time at high engine speeds, high loads, engine braking, hard cornering maneuvers and track use."

Thanks for your reply. I am waiting for the oil in the mail.

What went on 2016-2018, what was different about the engines? Just curious haha... I am somewhat new to this forum and appreciate all educational moments.

Originally the R valve train had slightly different parts and different lash adjusters. (If I recall I believe @honeybadger found this during his rebuild). Eventually though the R engine numbers became the standard for both cars.
