I have a 2016 Tech Pack GT350. Just bought it at 49k miles, and it has 53,4XX miles on it now. I was told no oil consumption when I bought it, but have started to notice that may not be the truth…
I changed my oil when I got it home at 52k miles with Amsoil Full Synthetic 5w-50. The vehicle seemed to have drank a little bit of oil but nothing terrible. Was a long road trip so I thought nothing about it. After changing the oil, 800 miles later it seemed to be at the bottom of the dipstick. I ended up changing the clutch at 52,900 miles on the car (aftermarket clutch about blew up my transmission. Pilot bearing was gone and plates were warped from bad install). After changing the clutch out, I didn’t pass 4k rpm for 500 miles and did no WOT pulls. Oil level seemed to stay the same. Once I fully broke in the clutch, I started having fun again going to 8k and having fun with the car. Went to check the oil 15 minutes after driving the car and the oil level dropped beneath the bottom dot on the dipstick.
Is it possible that it consumes only under WOT and spirited driving? Seems to have stayed the same under cruising and low rpm, but when I started having fun it seemed to drink some oil.
I’m just worried because I’ve only got a third party warranty on the vehicle that the bank sold me when buying the car. It offers a new motor if something is wrong with it, but it’s still a third party warranty so I’m iffy about it.
DISCLAIMER: All WOT pulls were after the engine oil temp was above 190 degrees. The car didn’t pass 3k rpm until it was at 190 degrees.
