The engine was designed for race tracks. 95% of them will not be used as intended so to use an oil that was intended for racing, on the street that giving you very high oil pressure is stupid. The only time motorcrafts oil is acceptable is in non performance vehicle's. Bmw german castrol wasnt that great either. People should either use pennzoil ultra if they cant afford amsoil, if they can use it. If someone has a need for an 5w50 the last thing you want it to do is sheer down to a 40. You want it to do its job and give you that protection. Motorcraft is garbage. This is the blood of your car, not something you trust to a synthetic blend or improper weights for the intended usage. /thread

I highly doubt seeing anyone with a 350 needing an accusump.

Even the GT350R-C doesn't have one. Ford really pulled out all of the stops to make the oil pan baffled properly.

As far as priming the oil system, quality modern oils take care of that.

With my experience in racing I have learned to keep it simple, the more you add, the more there is to possibly go wrong.
Race cars are all dry sump engines and they go through engines a lot quicker than your normal weekend HPDE guy does.

I have heard, but not confirmed, reports that they lost two engines due to oil issues at NCM Motorsports park last year during testing. Could have been a fluke could have been solved by now too. Non of the cars on the track tour had issues.

Ford engineers are only able to do what they can within the limitations that they're given. They have to recommend a blanket oil weight, the one for a worst case scenario considering the intended uses for the car. They aren't going to be able to recommend two or three different weights depending on usage and climate. Amsoil 5W-50 is approved by Ford for direct replacement. Whether or not other weights will be covered will probably depend on other factors and your dealership.

Personally, I know that a 5W-50 isn't ideal for a street driving oil. When I go to the road course, I'll change to a 5W-40/50. Then, when I'm back to only street driving, I'll likely switch back to a 5W-30 or 0W-40. I will run either Amsoil or Motul 300V no matter what weight I use. Motorcraft just isn't a good oil. If it's true that the GT350RCs use it, they can probably get away with using it in CTSC just fine because the oil is changed after every race.

Motul is telling me this will not be ready until February. Looking for more info from Motul.

I will probably end up using 300V oil in my own car.

0w40 is a better cold weather climate oil and year round oil. 5w40 is a good choice for those who track a bit but dont drive like the stig or just drive the car harder on the street. It can be used as a year round oil for those that dont see temperatures below 32 degrees. 5w50 is purely a track based oil weight. Its the same as how it was with the boss. Eventually people figured out 5w50 wasnt ideal for a mostly street car.
I use 0w40 Mobil 1 in all of my high performance cars, even my GT3 Cup Race car. It is a great year round oil, especially where I live, but also a great oil for a high revving motor. That said, I use it on the track as well as on the street. Bottom line, it is the best all around oil if I had to chose 1.

I will definitely be using it in my GT350.

Just a note, 300V doesn't have a lot of the detergents that a street oil has so Motul will tell you to change it more frequently. They quoted me 3,000 street miles when I asked a year or so ago.

I ran a UOA on some 15w-50 300V out of my autox car after about 150 "race" and dyno miles and blackstone said it was like 4,000 miles of wear. Which is actually pretty good for a 2.5 liter making 500 hp. However, I'd be much more likely to run the 8100 line or this new Sport line from Motul.

She'll Rotella T6 5W40 is a pretty stout oil.
It's great for diesels ;)

In track environments or in higher revving motors it's not that great. The track crowd very rarely uses it. I used to use it religiously in previous cars, but when I lost two motors in two years I started researching it and it shears down quickly at high temps.

It kind of makes sense since in a diesel application it's usually at lower temps and low RPM, not at 260-280 degrees and 7,500 rpm.

Agreed. The subaru guys use it like its some great oil. I refuse to use it in my daily sti. I noticed a fair amount of the engines dying use it :lol:

MOTORCRAFT sheers like crazy. I hope you dont use it.
