So we all know how it goes, decide to go to the track and "take it easy" but by the third session you're going as fast as you can.. Yesterday was my first time really pushing this 350R on a track that is very high speed (Mosport/Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) and extraordinarily hard on the driver side tires. Having said that, would this be considered normal tire wear given those circumstances? I'm using the factory alignment specs.. Guessing thats -1 deg and mild toe in

Also, I killed my starter.. Didn't even know that was an issue. This particular track gives you two options, short shift at 6500-6800, or wring it all the way out to 8250.. Just the way it is. Certain corners I would approach the braking point right at 8100-8200 RPM, so yeah. There's that

Anyways, does this indicate an alignment problem?

Looks good! You definitely need more negative camber if you plan to track more. Those R compound cup 2’s wear quickly.

Yeah for sure - I should have been more specific though, there's a bald strip down the outside of both front tires, maybe the picture doesn't show it so well.

Can you highlight specifically which area and repost the pic? Looks totally normal to me.

Looks normal with factory alignment. A more track focused alignment (needs neg camber) will even the inside wear.

pop the hood between sessions to let it cool down. Starter will last longer and wont overheat as much.

Mosport (assuming we talk about GP track) is actually pretty soft on tires, and your pictures look totally fine for stock aligment. As others have said, add some camber and you'll be fine. Don't overdrive the tires in turn 3 and do tire rotations, and these should last well. What are your hot pressures?

If you want to experience what "extraordinarily hard" on tires is, take it to Calabogie :giggle: . Pitt Race would be my somewhat close second on tire destruction.

Just curious, what were your lap times at Mosport?

Need more negative camber. Otherwise looks good.

Interesting comment to me... pitt seemed to damage the tire more than wear it for anyone I've been there with on cup 2's... I dont' think I've used cup2's there, but buddies driving p-cars or lotus have had the chunking issues there on the outer lips...

I mentioned that Mosport (GP track, yes. Should've specified) is hard on the driver side tires, particularly the front tire (this one pictured). I was more asking about this particular part of the tire in the photo attached. I've seen this wear pattern on the inside of street tires, particularly on VW/Audi. So I thought it could be an alignment issue.

My tire pressures are 36 hot on all 4 corners. It was a ridealong event so I wasn't really pushing it all day, but when I did manage to get a lap in on my own my best time was a 1:30:9

Yeah I usually do. This was a charity ride along event and it was 3 laps, drop off passenger, pick up another. So constantly pulling the car in the pits and heat soaking everything. I wasn't aware of the starter issues in general, so I wasn't as cautious about it as I should have been.

Yeah, totally normal. Keep going till you see a fair amount of cords there, then it’s time to replace them.

I run about -2.75 degrees camber on front for even tire wear. Also, make sure to rotate front left/right wheels after 2 track days and you will likely get at least 5 normal 20 min sessions before chording them. Driver front wears much faster on track. The 102y cup 2 tires will last much longer fyi but are more $. You’ll heat cycle out after 7 days anyway and lose grip after 5-6 quite bad if pushing.

welcome to the dead starter club. At least you can push it/roll down a hill to start! I’m currently getting my 6th starter!
