Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knew what numbers from the tread depth meant what it meant for the life if the tires. I searched and couldn't really find anything. The SC2 tires are hard for me to figure out because they aren't a regular tire and really don't come with much tread at all, so doing small tricks like a coin test doesn't really work. I have more wear on the rear tires than on the front.

The lowest reading I got was about 1/32 for the left rear and 3/32 for the right. I have about 11k miles with these tires so was hoping someone could let me know what is normal for SC2 tires for the GT350 (I know the GT350R uses a different compound than the GT350).

I have 10.5k on mine and based on what I see, the fronts have about 2k left on them and the rears are about to show cords on the insides.

The rear tires do wear faster than the fronts. And the SC2's wear from the outside in. Meaning the grooves starting from the outside will disappear first, with the inside groove being last. As long as the inside groove is stiil above the wear bars, or about 3/32", tires are still gtg. These were my front and rear tires with about 10k miles on them. I now have about 12K miles, and will be changing them by May, mainly because I'll be making a trip from NY to NC. At that point they should be at the end of their life.

There are too many factors that determine tire life, especially on a tire like a SC2 that starts off brand new with only 3/32. I manage about 4k miles on a set but I’m running fairly aggressive camber and track this particular car a few times a year. A single track day can shave thousands of miles of life. The inner and outer wear indicators are a good general guide, and if your car is aligned properly and you monitor air pressures you can run a SC2 until it looks like a slick. But as soon as you see cords or if the tires are wearing unevenly I’d be buying a new set.

Cup 2's (as with all other track tires) life are more typically measured in heat cycles or # of track days, not miles driven.

If you're using these as a street tire, just run them to the cords. If rain is a concern, then perhaps something like the PS4S would be a better choice.
