Especially true for cars....
I think Ford figured out that they needed a bigger gas engine with more torque (Godzilla) for their Super Duty trucks though.

I'd bet on a turbo 6 over another V8 any day. Too bad though.

I guess I don't get it. I mean don't get me wrong, I love a 6+ liter, but these newer 5.0's run like a scalded dog and don't have the best wet traction lol. When you are running close to 4 sec 0-60's, fast is relative at the point.

Everyone is moving towards an electric/hybrid platform. No way this gets mass produced for what, 500-520HP max? Cost/benefit doesn't seem to be there.

If true, it could be the go to engine for the special edition or low volume Mustangs. I’d also heard that a ultra spec’d Mustang, with better materials and every tech option possibly including AWD was being thought of as a high dollar top end of the Trim levels. If true, Performance and luxury would have to meet especially due to increased weight. That could account for the larger engine as well. I’d assume the 5.0 would continue on for awhile, eventually being replaced by either a supercharged or Turbo V6. The Ecoboost isn’t going anywhere, as someone posted- that’s the best seller for Europe and other overseas markets as well as an entry level offer for us regular schmo’s who can’t afford $40 or $50 plus dollars for even a base V6 or V8. Never mind the hybrid/EV, that will not be an entry level either.

The next generation V8 Mustang will probably be of smaller displacement and turbocharged. The V8 will live on for a long time because that is the choice of motor for many Mustang enthusiasts.

The V6 will most likely come back as well, maybe the 2.7 Ecoboost V6 or the 3.0 Ecoboost V6 and the 4 cylinder Ecoboost will most likely disappear from the lineup. The V6 has been the base model Mustang's motor for many years, way longer than the 4 cylinder have.

The S650 Mustang will be very nice but I plan to keep my S550 Ecoboost for a long time (very fun car for me).

Then there's this....
So still no more proof than what Dias said.

To be fair, I could see Ford using a paid for architecture that's cheaper to build to replace the somewhat complex 5.0. Even if it doesn't end up making that much more power.

I guess the 6.8l engine will be in a performance model (like Gen 7 Shelby) or some kind of duty Mustang derivate
