There isn't a lot of satisfaction when the vandals are in jail and your car is trashed.
They would still be liable to pay damages

but come on....

How likely is it someone will throw paint and key your car? Sure we hear stories on tv and on the internet...but the likelihood of someone actually following through and doing that is incredibly low.

CA noise laws arent crazy at 95db. That being said, just about every HOA, apartment, etc. have other noise restrictions (and thankfully so). Nobody wants to hear dogs barking all damn day because of lazy, incompetent, owners, nobody wants to hear your noisy Harley that is just making noise for the sake of noise, and nobody wants to listen to loud vehicles idling early (never mind the jackasses that let their loud vehicles to include diesels warm up for 10 minutes) in the morning or coming home late at night. It's just part of being a courteous neighbor.
I'm in real estate, in fact in our market very few hoa's have noise restrictions in regards to cars, trucks, bikes, or dogs. Most hoa's are to make sure no hoopty's are on blocks, no boats in the yard, no commercial vehicles, etc. Unless it's a retirement community very few have noise regulations and let noise regulations fall on county laws.

i'll say it over and over again. it doesn't matter if it's corsa extreme or joe blow's catback with 2 resonators... you're going to hear it on a cold start.

Not many around here have them either. Especially since some of the more expensive neighborhoods have water access here. Besides small outboards, most boats are pretty loud.

Correction, every single HOA I've been apart of has. Apparently this isnt the norm...

because the startup phase runs at higher rpm to get engine all going and prepared. i'm sure someone could explain technical reasons why. it doesn't last long but obviously lasts longer if your in a colder area. in summer time here it's a couple of secs and this past winter maybe 10. my car is also garaged too so it goes quick.

Yeah, I don't know. My neighbour across the street drives a hobby Harley and guns it on cold starts down the street. Nothing like shitting in your own cage, complete disrespect for every neighbour here, but yeah, no one has thrown eggs at his house yet.

Update: I sent an email to myboard president, who I have a friendly relationship with. I'll see what he had to say about it.

The note didn't specify cold starts specifically, just exhaust noise. I don't drive like an a$$hole through the garage, so I assumed it was cold start noise this person is upset about. I'll back my car into my space and just idle through the garage. Hopefully, this will smooth things out, because I'd hate to have to cut the mufflers out and have some Midas crap welded in.

Thanks everyone for the input! Much appreciated.

I have lived in no less than 4 HOA controlled areas, none have ever enforced any kind of auto noise complaint. If they did every f250 and Harley would be shut down.

Screw a HOA. Nobody is going to tell me what I can, and cannot do with my property.
