Hey I was doing oil pump gears and sprocket on my 2017 Mustang Gt… The timing belt must’ve been off time when I put it on. The crank will turn about 180 degrees now at first like only 90.. sound like it’s hitting metal when I turn clockwise same thing counterclockwise but it’s gradually give going counter.. I never tried to start the car and don’t want to put everything back on just to take it off cause it’s not starting… At first I did have the spark plug in but after the seize up I took them out..Maybe I built up to much pressure knocked something out of wack.. I barely went clockwise when installing the the chains…should I keep going counterclockwise gradually little by little till it does and a full 360 and maybe it will unlock or should I just get to taking the heads off so I can see if one of the piston is stuck or something? Anyone ever run into this on this car?? I need help badly

If your cam timing was off valves may be hitting. I would take it apart . Reset the timing. Check to see if the oil pump isn't in anyway defective and binding/jambing some how. Then say a couple prayers to the engine gods. Hope is it's not damaged. Good luck

Mine made all kinds of clacking noise trying to turn the crank by hand. Spent several days trying to figure it out. But I was confident I did it to the t. Trust me, after installing oil pump gears and a whipple at the same time, never doing anything like it before, it took me 2 days to get the courage to fire it up. But it fired up like a champ

With the spark plugs removed, can you rotate the crank 2 full revolutions without hearing any metal contact? Did you mic out the new OPG ensuring the gap was correct?. And if the cam timing is off, could cause damage. Hate to see you have issues but, if you try to start and one of those things isn't correct, your motor could be damaged. Good Luck

I had a similar feeling when I put my built/sleeved motor together. As it was my first engine build.
I had a short key way tool and struggled to turn engine over at all. once I put a extension of pipe on it I could turn it with all kinds of Mechanical noises as at this point i didnt have front cover on.
alot of the noise was the chain guides clicking back and forth As you rotate the engine. I was surprised how much noise they make Without oil pressure.

i spun it over quite a few times and then my oil pump spat oil out the side Onto the floor. Awesome that seemed to work. Seeing oil gave me confidence to button it up and get it in the car.
I removed injector fuse , and then built 30psi oil pressure using the start button. Then replaced it and it started right up no noises. big weight of the shoulders when it started with no nasty noises haha.

Just FYI, if you hold the accelerator to the floor and hit start, it kills the injectors and it will turn the motor over for 5-10 seconds. That's what I use for oil changes to build pressure before actually starting.

Good luck OP. It sounds like everything is probably fine, but I'd be pulling it apart and making sure everything is right before I pushed the start button.

No it’s only spins about 180… Today I’ll take off everything including the OP and see if I can rotate it.. And check my valves see if one of them bent and go watch a couple YouTube videos on how to time the car… The driver side cam timing might be off since the mark was to the left a little when I place the chains.. Thanks hopefully it’s an easy fix…I don’t have to far to go considering the valve cover are off and the timing lid

Don't force anything and don't use the starter to spin the engine. It will bend valves if you do use it.

Yeah I definitely wasn’t going to try to start it I’m not putting anything back together until it’s spinning 380 non stop… took me like 2 hours to get the timing cover off and valve covers… plus I need a new timing chain tensioner

if you just gently turned it by hand they shouldn't be bent

If you didn't use the starter and stopped when it binded, you have a good chance nothing was damaged. When I did my timing, I used open end wrenches as well as Ford wrenches and straps to lock down the cams so they never moved during the first chain install.

Sounds like valve train is out of time, valve hitting a piston, def recheck the cam timing and recheck again till you solve and are confident

Do I need to remove my cams for that or can I just spin them to get it back on timing
