Orginal post updated with testing results! Today was a beautiful day here to work on the car! 65 degrees! If some are curious here is what the stock air box looks like out of the car.

Nicely done! Sounds great and lowers temps just a bit. Last car I added a CAI to I also noticed better time to torque on throttle tip in. Did you find this to be the case?

I didn't push the car to much as the filter was only held in by the silicone couplers.. From what I did do though I found this to be true. Much more responsive! Better feeling of power lower in the RPM band. It seemed like it was more rev happy as well. I actually was able to fry the tires on a 0-60 run. Got a 5.8 because of this...

zack, I've got nothing of value to add to this thread, but I want to say that read it (and I've read your other threads) and I really enjoy watching you try different ideas, test them, and modify.

I figured I would try to keep some interest up in the V6 here while the aftermarket catches up.... Plus I just like to build things myself!

How are you going to fit your filter so deep (low) with your design of air box? You'll have to modify your air box quite a bit, it won't look anything like your orignal... How did you test your IAT? I just added a K&N drop in filter to my factory air box and I'd like to see the difference of temperature and flow.

Because most of the filter body is inside the fender well I don't need my airbox. Basically the fender well now acts as the airbox for the filter. It does a decent job of shielding the filter from hot air from the engine and has a large volume of air entering from the grille area to feed the filter. To top it all off the filter is protected from water from all sides and from underneath due to the splash shield.

IAT's were tested with using the gauge mode in the instrument cluster. This was not the most accurate gauge of air temps but it was good enough for testing. Like I said before the temp sensor is most likely located in the MAP sensor itself which is in the middle of the intake manifold. So air temps read here will be heated from the engine itself and not reflect actual air temps at the filter inlet. I am not looking at the actual IAT's recored but rather the change in IAT's from location to location vs stock.

The K&N drop in filter will most likely not have any effect on IAT's as the airbox is drawing the same temp air in from just behind the grille. What the K&N filter does is increase flow through the intake.

Update

So an update on my CAI... Been toying around with different ideas for the past few days and have decided on the path I will take.

I will make a full CAI and replace the stock ABS plastic intake tube. The CAI will consist of 4 inch stainless steel tubing from the throttle body to the 45 degree and filter. I'm using stainless because 1. The results MAP found with their EB intake that stainless will provide lower IAT's then aluminum and 2. It will be easier for me to work with and weld. Because I will be replacing the stock intake tube I will need to do something about the PCV and vacuum line connections. I will be machining clones of the stock fitings at work and will then weld these onto my intake. I should be buying the parts tomorrow! Stay tuned for updates!

The sound will be nuts with all stainless tubing. I want a stainless intake manifold along with the air intake. I had such a setup on my G35. I find the engines are similar and the Cyclone would really fly with a turbo.

Thats exactly what I want! A crazy aggressive sound on acceleration!

Update

So not much is going on at the moment... Waiting on shipping yet again... I have purchased everything I need to complete the intake. The most notable update are the vacuum line connections. I got accurate measurements of the stock fittings to be able to reproduce them in stainless. By this time next week (hopefully) this 304 steel rod with the help of a lathe will become my new fittings!
