Most of the fittings for the transmission fluid pump have arrived. I’m now in the process of trying to figure out placement for the Y adapter, positioning of the case fittings and hose routing. The photo below is a mock-up of what I’m thinking of doing, but would like to hear other suggestions please. Thanks.

All parts arrived at CTP/WPC safely yesterday. I spoke with Ben (owner of CTP) regarding a few parts which he said might be a bit risky to treat, due to the fact that they either had plastic pieces on them and/or bearings in them and they might not survive the extreme temperatures that they would be subjected to. The parts in question were; the 5th gear shift fork, center support plate and gear shift rail (see pic with red arrows identifying the parts that will not receive treatment). Based on these risks, I decided not to have those parts treated. Having said that, the cost associated with both Cryogenic treatment and WPC treatment was as follows:

Shipping = $160 X 2

Cryo treatment = $600

WPC treatment = $1073

Total = $1993

Mad ducats.
For sure! The next item I’ll need to order is a tourniquet to stop the flow of money leaving my wallet, lol. Short of billet gears and a 26 spline input shaft, this is literally everything that I know of to strengthen this transmission. I just hope it treats me right after all that I’ve put into this upgrade.

Definitely don't want to treat the gear selector sensor magnet at high temperatures! Neo magnets start to have problems at 80 C and are no longer magnetic at 320 C.
Open class slot car motors use cobalt magnets because of the heat the motors generate. :eek:

Copy that. I pulled the magnet off of the gear selector before shipping the parts out. I wasn’t sure about that, so I wanted to err on the side of caution.

Received an update early this morning informing me that my parts are being held at -310 degrees in the Cryo Chamber.

Thats pretty cold. I work around liquid nitrogen, and liquid helium at work. Maybe I can dip some parts real quick... 🤣🤣🤣

Also, happy Thanksgiving Adrian!

Yeah, that’s a little on the chilly side, lol. I did read something about dipping parts in nitrogen for a quick Cryo, but hey also said that could shock them if not done in a controlled manner.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Adam!

@Duece McCracken, I was also reading that back in the day, some racers would leave their engine blocks out in the extreme cold temperatures for a few winters in a row, to serve as a Caveman style of Cryo treatment. In doing so, they discovered that their engines held together much longer. Only problem with that today is, one would need a second block and/or other parts to leave out in the cold for multiple winters. Maybe you’re onto something though with having access to liquid nitrogen. I wonder if you could maybe start out with putting parts into a deep freezer for a couple of weeks and then immediately transfer them over to a container with dry ice, followed by submerging them in liquid nitrogen to reduce the possibility of shocking them?

I'll leave that stuff to the metalurgists, lol

I wouldnt have the control that a pro shop has. Would be pretty cool though. I'd probably turn into a 10 year old and start throwing random stuff in it too, lmfao!

I received my Cryo and WPC treated transmission parts back today. The work does look good, although I was a little disappointed with the following things:

- Some of the teeth on a few of the gears have some minor damage and as a result, will need to be deburred See pics with with damage circled in red and/or yellow.

- My billet aluminum shift forks did not receive either treatment. Ben at CTP did tell me this over the phone, but I assumed he was referring to the Cryo process only. He said the reason being was because the bronze pads were pressed onto the shift forks and he didn’t want to risk Cryo treating them because of expansion and contraction with the two types of materials. However, I was surprised to see that the they had not received the WPC treatment, as they are listed on the invoice and I was charged for the WPC service.

- I sent 5 synchro rings in to be Cryo and WPC treated. While these parts were Cryo’d, they do not appear to have received the WPC treatment. They are listed on the invoice and I was charged for the WPC service.

- I received a call from Ben last Thursday informing me that the work was complete, at which time payment for the services was rendered in the amount of $1841.70 (which included shipping both ways). Note: This price also included a 10% discount. In addition, I received an email with tracking information. Fast forward to Monday afternoon on Dec. 5th, Ben called me before I got around to calling him regarding the status of shipping (which hadn’t happened yet). Long story short, he said that at 85 LBS, my package was too heavy for him to lift and therefore, he had placed two separate calls to FedEx, on two separate days and requested that they pick up my package for shipping. Later that evening, Ben called me back to tell me that FedEx had dropped off some items at the shop and picked up my package for shipment.

Overall, I would rate the quality of the work and customer service about a 7.75 out of 10 based on the entire experience.

I don’t know if it’s worth sending parts back again to have them WPC’d, as the 1-4 shift forks are aftermarket billet aluminum and the synchro rings have been Cryo’d. This leaves me with the task of deburring the slightly damaged teeth on the gears. If I had to guess at what caused the damage, they were probably mishandled or dropped during the process. Enough talk, here are some before and after pics. I tried to lay them out the same way for before/after comparison purposes.
