I talked to Ben at CTP (Controlled Thermal Processing Inc.) today and received the quote for cryo treatment of all transmission parts (including the input, output and countershaft bearings). Once cryo has been completed, all parts will be measured and I’ll be given a quote for the WPC process, which is also in house. Here’s a pic of everything that will receive both treatments.

Cryo treatment = $600 plus shipping
WPC treatment = TBD

Great MT82 tech thread - the updates you provide with the pics is definitely beneficial to others and is great for future MT82 upgrades.

Thank you! There isn’t a whole lot of info. out there on the MT82 when it comes to dissecting of the unit. I wish I had been able to find more on that before I opened up mine. At least now, we’ve got some info. moving forward. Hopefully it’ll continue to grow.

Something worth taking notice of was the coating on the 1-2 synchro inner ring as well as 1-2-3-4 synchros are missing some or most of the coating which I believe is called molybenum coating (that’s intended for grip). I‘m going to guess that with the coating gone, less grip would mean there would be some slippage at some point.

Also, 5-6 synchros appear to have some variation of a carbon lining on the insides. However, with me just lightly handling them, I could feel and see grit from the carbon lining coming off onto my fingers. Keep in mind, that these parts only have about 6400 miles on them.

I have read that the WPC treatment will improve the grip on synchros, so they should be good to go once they’re treated.

Seems like changing the trans fluid even on a low mileage vehicle would be a good idea.

That certainly can’t hurt. Try whatever you can and see if it makes an improvement. I didn’t mention this before, but I had switched over to BG Synchro Shift II about 150 miles before the teardown.

Please post any good, bad and ugly MT82 related info. right here, so that we can create a large database to learn from.

Well, the gears that I ordered from Tasca Parts arrived yesterday and unfortunately, they’re the wrong ones. Looks like it’s back to sleuthing to try and find the correct ones. After some more parts research on the internet, I think these parts may be for an EcoBoost MT82. I have to figure this out, or I’ll be sitting on a huge paperweight indefinitely. Dang! I was hoping to ship all these parts out for special treatment either on Monday or Tuesday. I may still send everything minus 3rd and 5th gears and just send those once ai acquire them.

Ewwwwww Tasca. I wrote them off years ago. Terrible experiences.
Any suggestion as to who I may try? If I don't locate the correct parts by this weekend, I’m going to try another local dealership (In person). What a PITA. I thought I was in the home stretch, SMH.
