I’m looking at various tunes for my stock ecoboost. Livernois, Whipple, Ford Performance, and Tuneplus.

Livernois claims high 11s with tune and drag radial/slicks.

But last night I saw that Tuneplus offers an additional automatic transmission tuning that claims to be good for .4 tenths

Does that mean it’s capable of 11.5 with both tunes (engine and tranny), tire, and likely an intercooler?

What are you running now?
Factory tune, Performance Pack car.

Maybe the Livernois tune has the “transmission tune” already equipped to run 11.9

So does the Tuneplus engine tune run ~12.3? And I have to pay the extra $150 transmission tune for the .4 reduction?

or Tuneplus runs 11.9, add the transmission tune for 11.5?

One thing I know for sure is that no one is going to guarantee a time. Too many variables. You buy parts and services with "expected performance," but nobody sells a time.

What’s claimed on websites and observed in the real world are often far apart. I don’t see an ecoboost going mid 11s with tune and tires.

Seems crazy to be these cars can run that fast with just a tune but technology is crazy.

Here's the pass:

Mods listed:

Livernois Motorsports Custom Tuning for Race gas via MyCalibrator tuning device
Slicks and skinnies
Removed passenger seat
Removed factory catback

Let's think about it like this -

They are only trapping 114mph, which lines up with making about 350whp. So that checks out.

1.6 60 foot time, 50 degree day at the track at close to sea level, so you also get a negative DA.

That catback is probably a good 60-something lbs, passenger seat 50lbs, assuming they left the rear seat but that's another 30lbs, those factory 20" wheels are 250lbs for all 4, that could be close to a hundred pound loss going down to a drag pack

So let's just say they are down 250lbs total. That takes a 3500lb car down to 3250lbs

The math works out with 350whp and a 3250lb car. Guys would go 11.5 @ 115 in LS1 Camaros/Firebirds back in the day, and the recipe for that was a little weight reduction, headers+tune, 3500 stall converter, and a drag pack. And that was a 4-speed auto, not a 6-speed.

My question is how much is that race gas tune worth....they are running VP race fuel

If it was really 'just a tune' they'd all be running 11's

This is more inline with what you'll see in real life:

Bone stock the car went 13.6 @ 98 MPH. We then added a Bama 93 Track Tune / Airaid CAI combo and made a few more passes! The car almost picked up a full second with a 12.9 @ 103 MPH.. Stay tuned for more from this car as the Bama team is just getting started! 2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost mod list:

  • 93 Track Tune - This tune is available for all Mustang Ecoboost owners.
  • 19" MMD Zeven Wheels - Mickey Thompson 305/35/19 Drag Radials
  • Airaid CAI
Totally other end of the spectrum and probably no the best example.

Then this guy is going 11.7 @ 113

Intercooler, downpipe, wastegate actuator, e30 tune

I have made this joke before But imagine taking that car back in the 60's.. " I will bet you $5000 this 4 cyl will out run that big block Chevy"
They would think your from a different planet

My 69 Mustang with a 427 ( factory 428CJ car ) with a single traction 3:55 only ran a 13.10 @102.
If I had the money I would have bought a limited slip and guessing 12.80's BUT that's a car that got around 8 mpg and wasn't fun to drive daily

Have you considered going full bolt ons? I used to have an ecoboost, you can make 380-390 whp reliably on stock motor, all it takes is catless, catback of choice, charge pipes and big intercooler, (intercooler would be worth even if stock), intake pipe with stock airbox or any intake you prefer, and a really good tune. That will get you to what you want somewhat easily, ive never dragged my car but ive ran coyotes before and i do win races against them up until about 110mph where gear ratio starts to hurt against a coyote

OP, grab a baseline run at the track with a drag pack and then follow it up with your tune and drag pack on the same day. That’ll be the real tell all.

I know you have an EB, but I wanted to share some numbers from my Gen. 3 (D4 tranny) Coyote to help put things into perspective as to how difficult it will be to run mid 11s. Not saying it can’t be done with the right combination, but I believe it’ll take a whole lot to get there.

In my case, it hasn’t been as easy as I thought it would be to run a respectable number with my FBO Bullitt (whether NA or with nitrous).

Your sixty is gonna dictate how your run turns out. If you can get into the 1.4-1.5 range, you’ll be on a really good pass, especially with an auto tranny.

I’ve only seen 12.30’s NA on a 1.7-1.8 sixty - making 469 rwhp/434 rwtq and 11.65 with nitrous on a 1.8 sixty - making 639 rwhp/602 rwtq spraying in 2nd-4th.

Note: My runs are made with a full tank of gas and Hoosier QTPs. It’s frustrating as heck too, because I had a 2004 Mach 1 that ran consistent 12.60s NA and 11.70s with a 100 shot of nitrous. Granted the S550 is a heavier car, but it also makes considerably more power than the M1 did.

The real question is, how long did these engines last after tuning? The Bama and Livernois examples are both from the time when a number of these engines imploded some time after tuning. Also, pre-EPA crackdown on tuners. Don't make me link to that thread! 🤣

My car runs 13.8 at 104 with all the mods in my signature so have a long way to go to get to the high 11s.
