Mustang is not a Supercar, it is a super car in many owners eyes but not a "Supercar". Supercar's come after Sportscars and the Mustang has just begun evolving from Sport coupe to Sportscar last year... It could take 20-30 years for the Mustang to make the Sport Coupe/Sportcar change. Look at the C7, Sportscar becoming a Supercar.

Anyhow...

Sales of the Camaro will continue to fall in one way or another. Year over year, month over month, rental, fleet, all areas of concern.

Even if Ford stopped selling rental Mustang's (11,000), the Mustang would still have around 21,000 more sales in 2016. Besides, the Camaro is still being sold as a rental. In 2010, some 20,000 Camaro's went to Rental/Fleet, not sure why it's a big deal now.

Ford was smarter, they filled the void of both S197 and 5th Gen at Rental companies. Many Rental Agencies are Mustang specific now except AVIS, which carries the 2016 Camaro. Long story short, Ford stole those sales being first to market.

It's 53,000 sales vs. 21,000 and eliminating 11,000 rental sales not only wouldn't help the Camaro, it would be an insane decision to cut sales/profit.

GM only celebrate that fact to calm shareholders, reality is, it's doomsday for the Camaro.

Eventually, the Rental stock on the Mustang will calm down but only as overseas sales increase. Even then, restock happens to some degree every year.

Worth noting... Camaro rental sales are down 53%... Does anyone know how many 5th Gen's typically went to rental/fleet? About 10-20,000 a year... Oh how the tables have turned. Unfortunately, GM wasn't making profit from those sales

How in the world could Chevy sell any Camaro convertibles to a rental company with that already small trunk significantly cut down further when the top is down? With so little leg room in the back and reduced passenger side visibility with the top up, I would be afraid to rent one.

I will be watching for a comparo on the verts.
AVIS is the only Rental Company that has a contract for the 2016 Camaro as far as I know. The peak Rental sales years for the Camaro were 2010 and 2013, not sure how bad it was in '15.

If GM has been losing money on rental sales for the last 5 years, that's their issue. Ford is making profit on rental Mustang's... Fleet? Even less but there is some kick backs at the dealership level.

The Camaro lost market share in both retail and rental. A press release stating that it was intentional was only to calm shareholders... period...

53,000 sales in the first 5 months in MY16 is great, tack on another 8000-12,000 for overseas and it's a strong runner. The 2015 had a similar impact as the 2005 Mustang.

The 2010 Camaro is handing the 2016 it's a$$ and it only lasted 5 years...

When the 2009 Mustang sold 66,000 cars in a year, EVERY major media source covered the issue. The brand new Camaro could do worse in a good economy and nothing...

Torque News and Truth About Cars are the only ones reporting this massive failure.
