Heading to the FIRM for my first road racing day. Curious about a few things….

leave in drive or use paddle shifters?

tire pressures with cup 2’s?

anything to keep an eye on temperature wise?

Drive vs paddles - that's up to you. I would think paddles would be more fun.

I have never used Cup 2's but typically people tend to aim for 34psi hot. You could start there and adjust as needed.

I personally start backing off when CHT goes above 235°, engine oil gets into the red zone, and diff temps above roughly 280°

Keep in mind that oils only have protective additives that withstand up to 270° so anything passed that and the oil starts breaking down.

Post your thoughts and experience with the FIRM track. I plan on doing that this year as well. Thanks

You must mean open track, not w2w racing…. Right?
If you are a first timer, you are not going to go fast enough to even remotely push the car close to its limits
Just work on your lines and braking markers
Speed is a byproduct of skills and will come later
Have fun

Don't leave it in D (drive). If you're going to use the auto feature, at least put it in S or S+. Those are more appropriate for track driving.

Leaving it in auto mode works perfectly fine, however I find it more fun to use the paddles. Plus there are certain scenarios or spots on the tracks I go to where I would personally choose to be in a different gear than what the PCM thinks it should be in, so using the paddles gives me this control.

Thanks everyone for the help. It is an open track event. Not a real race.

that’s the info I needed. Especially about tire pressures. I’ll report back.
