Ok I really didn't want to post this but I'm doing a bunch of work on my car and one of those things is installing springs. Rears went fine. I know your supposed to tap the spline bolt out with a hammer but they wont give. I'm using a 2lb hard rubber mallet but they wont give? Should i run to the store and but a heavy duty metal hammer? Will this make a big difference or should i just keep trying with the mallet i have? I wasn't expecting them to be this hard to get out. Any advice is good advice, Thanks.

They can be a PITA but they will come out. Your first problem is that 'hard rubber mallet'. Throw that thing in the trash and get a real hammer or 2lb sledge. Make sure the nut is threaded till the very end of the bolt so you are messing up your bolt/threads and then proceed to beat the piss out of it till they come out.

Mallet?

You need a metal hammer. Get something solid and it will shock it enough to start coming loose.

Don't be scared. Hit it hard!

Trust me I am hitting it hard and I have the nut threaded on partially. I figured it was the mallet.... on my way to home depot! But the cars on jacks so hopefully the bike starts.

I used a fucking full size sledge to get mine out... Some people have recommended putting some pressure upwards on the spindle with a jack.

How long did it take with the sledge?

beat the fuck out of mine with a ball-peen. just grinded down the tips of the bolt after I was done and good to go.

while you got the top splined bolt out, throw in a camber bolt. unless you're going to buy a strut tower camber kit

I just put the nut at the very tip of the bolt and beat the ever leaving shit out of it. My buddy helping was a bit shocked but I've had plenty of experience with those kind of bolts and I know they need some Russian lovin' to get them out

You will never get it with a rubber mallet. You need Thor's freaking hammer to do the job.

I used a 3lb hammer and was hitting it as hard as I could in the space given. Still took 20+ hits. Turn the wheel away from the side you are working on to give yourself a little more room.
