since the exhaust piping passes by the transmission, think any thermal wrapping will help?

Hmmm, I wonder if a lighter drive shaft would help that hard working transmission...

A stock 911 will hang around all day with a 350, track pack or not.

As much as they touted this as outperforming a GT3, the corner cutting is becoming more evident each day.

Which starts at 100k and can quickly go well beyond that once you had the fun stuff. Totally relevant comparison. Lets be realistic for a minute here and look at the MSRP.

Is it that big a deal that you will need to add a cooler if you want to track the car?

To be accurate, it was the "R" they were comparing to the GT3, which does have all the cooling. Also, they never said it outperformed the GT3, but that it was within 1/100 of a second (or 1/10 or something like that). My impression was that the performance was equivalent to the GT3, not better.

Finally, the GT3 is 2X the MSRP of the GT350R ($65,000 vs. $130,000), so it shouldn't be surprising to see some differences in quality. To be fair, I haven't yet heard of any R models (or Track Pack models) overheating, other than in the R&T PCOTY testing where they mentioned that the R showed some scary numbers (I'm guessing that was engine oil temps, since that gauge is very obvious).

I like to disassemble things.
For most of us, we want a tech car that we can take to a track. There should be an ability to check both boxes. Maybe 2017?

That, I absolutely agree with.

The GT500 stayed the same for '07/'08/'09, '10 was a bit of a freak, then you had '11/'12, the the '13/'14. If Ford continues to follow suit, '17 should bring some changes and hopefully option content includes more freedom of choice.

Did anyone take note of the fact that the Lethal Performance tech pack car survived an entire day of track abuse by numerous drivers, including Billy Johnson, fastest GT350 driver on earth?

I for one think this thread is a bit of an over-reaction to one reported issue.

For now I'm reserving judgement, but I'm sure there will be more information available before my first track day in June. I'd like to get coolers fitted if I need them. Preferably Ford coolers, not aftermarket.

I understand the air under the car is better controlled than a regular Mustang GT, and that can cause heat issues. Maybe they should have had different aero panels under the tech pack cars? I tracked my regular Mustang GT (non PP) and had no problems.

Just to be clear, this is the third reported issue.

In fact I have only seen one non track pack/R that tracked their car and didn't report this same issue, and that was Lethals car.

They also didn't say what the ambient temperature was, or how long they had the car out each time. South Florida doesn't really have a winter but this was back around December I believe. Temps were probably at 80 degrees or below.

Hit the track just after I hit 1,000 miles - full day session, no issues - drove 230 miles back to Florida right after - ran like a champ.

It's frickin' INSANE. All kinds of stock daily drivers can do track days with no problem. It's also a blatant misrepresentation and false advertising to the public. All FORD does is market this as a track-ready car and they don't just limit it to the Track-Pack or R.
(?).
I think it's insane that anyone would not order the race version ie. (Track Pack or R) and then get upset that their car doesn't stay cool on the track. Why the hell would anyone spend 7 grand on sofa seats and a stereo which will be well out of date in 3 years is beyond me but hey that's just my opinion. Now you're seeing why they have track ready options for these cars - maybe buyers just disregarded that as not needed.

It would be like me bringing my wife's luxury Jaguar to the track and then getting angry that it doesn't also double as a race car. Who would of thought?

Clearly you've never driven either. I own both. The GT350 is a masterpiece. The 57k price makes it a freak.

Okay, I'm going to try to reserve judgment until we get more data on cars going limp on track days. And I'm sorry, but anyone saying it's fine to expect not to be able to track the Tech pkg because we made the choice are just dead wrong.

1. Many, many of us have owned performance and regular cars before, how many of you ever had cars that COULD NOT run normal track days (4 X 20-30 minute sessions, l'm not talking about racing)? And we buy a "high performance" sports car and we're to accept that we can't run on track? That's not only ridiculous it's probably actionable given the GT350 marketing. We can't legally get near this car's performance levels except on track.

Have any of you owned any other mustangs with this limitation? Ive done probably close to 50-60 track days and I've seen all kinds of cars run with no problems. I've never even heard of such a restriction. Everyone keeps comparing the GT350 to Camaros, are any of them unable to do track days? (And I'll bet the "luxury Jaguars" can run all day on track without a problem.)

2. I might be less offended/upset if we could resolve the problem with a bolt on cooler, but so far everyone's saying the trans cooler pump is internal on the Track cars and the Tech trans doesn't have the external plugs to allow for a bolt-on transmission cooler, you have to replace the whole unit at a cost of around $5,000.

3. How do you think Ford Perf and consumers would respond to an article with the headline: "Ford builds amazing, best track-performing Mustang ever, BUT YOU CANT TAKE IT ON TRACK!!

Seriously, I would not have gone with the Tech Pkg if I thought I couldn't run track days with it. I've tracked and raced BMWs for years and external oil or trans coolers or even finned diff covers were always considered nice extra protection to have, not essential to run on track.

Ok, rant over for now.
