I was planning on driving the car about 4 hours back and forth from Denver to the mountains this weekend. Do I need to be concerned that on a drive of that duration of the car going into limp mode? Don't expect to be tearing it up, but I suspect driving will be spirited.

I thought Denver was the mountains

I've gone on 4-5 hour trips from the White Mountains to the seacoast many times without issues. One could say like a granny but with some spiritedness when conditions warranted. Trans temp do get high (240s +) but I've avoided stop and go, traffic jams....

Temps will spike when getting off highways. They'll also spike with long inclines, heavier loads, and high ambient temperatures.

But then again, the White Mountains are like foothills compared to the Rockies...

Happy motoring.

It may go into limp mode if you are driving in a spirited manner and the ambient temperatures are warm, especially if you are driving up hills. What I've noticed is that if the engine is in the upper revs the transmission temperature will rise, and the transmission temperature doesn't fall very quickly at all. I would recommend monitoring the temperature and taking it easy if the temperature starts getting too high. Another option is just don't worry about it and if the car limps, it limps. That will just mean you can't have as much fun after that point.

Denver is suppose to be very hot, but unless you have pixxy dust that makes you invisible to cops I don't think you will be able to rag on it enough long enough to hit limp.

You don't need to break the law to hit limp mode if it's above ~85 degrees.

Will the altitude affect the temps in Denver? Probably just yet another stress factor. You will likely be OK if you are not totally beating on the car.

You'll be fine. The only time I hit limp mode on the street was on a mountain road in a traffic jam with a passenger on a day with the temp well into the 90's. Enable your trans temp gauge with Forscan and you will be able to monitor it.
