I bought my car used with 9000 miles on it. engine was replaced at 3000 miles before I got it because of piston slap. paperwork shows dealer changed oil at 9000 miles with Pennzoil 5w-20 and a bottle of Zmax. I have 13000 miles on it now. never had a tick in the engine til today I changed the oil. I put Valvoline 5w30 and a bottle of zmax. now its ticking at lite revs from 1500- 2500. so now what should I do?

Get on Ford's list for another new engine, you aren't the first and you won't be the last. Good luck.

I haven’t heard one that doesn’t tick at some point or another. Including mine. I have about 14k miles on it at this point in time. The tick hasn’t caused any issues for me. If it does I will make use of the warranty. I’m definitely not letting a dealer tear my engine apart unless I’m sure there is an issue, smoke, check engine light, etc... dealers still haven’t figured out the correct amount of oil 18+ 5.0’s take...

Ford even came out with a TSB/Message that says it's normal. The MASSIVE problem I have with that message, is they don't explain in detail WHAT THE CAUSE IS!!!

Meaning, what actually makes that sound?!?!?!?!?!

Honestly, I would just drive it until it blows or trade it in (if it bothers you that bad).

The BBQ tick has been around since 2011, yet nobody has found out the reason for it...... This looks like it's going the same way.

Can I ask what brand of filter you used in your oil change. Just wondering

Try Ceratec. It might quiet the tick down.

To this day, that's a "theory", not an answer.
Yep - and this site is full of bullshit theories.

Drive the damn car and quit listening to it. You have tons of moving parts - 4 cams, chains, 4 valves per cylinder and all that goes with that, it is a lovely beast with tons of moving parts that will give off weird sounds.
