The other day after putting on a new hood bra for an upcoming road trip I noticed the dreaded beginnings of the bubbling paint on about 4-5 spots on the passenger side of the edge of the hood. Took my car to a local body shop who did a FANTASTIC job on a crease on the left side quarter. He estimated stripping...metal repair...repainting...to be @ $800. He suggested taking it to the dealer. As I was going there anyway for THE WORKS I talked to the customer care rep and of course because of the year of my car...2015...he wouldnt even bother taking pics of it.
Im wondering if anybody here has had that issue...Im sure there are and Ford KNOWS its an issue as the verbiage between the 2015 and the 2016 warranty coverage in the owners manual adds another 5 years to the fit and finish coverage for the 2016s!!!
My question is: IF youve had issues and got nowhere at the dealership and a bodyshop was too expensive, has anybody taken on the project themselves...how'd it turn out and what where the steps?
Thanks in advance!!

it's not a big deal to repair yourself no need to paint the complete hood but you can if you wan. you can get factory matching paint in a spray can at a paint supply store. sand prime paint done. or you can remove the damaged paint and use touch up paint. watch youtube for correct way to use touch up paint

Unfortunately, you have a few things going against you.

Your S550 is a 2015 and is now 7 years old. The Ford Paint & Corrosion Warranty is 5/60 and has been for many years. You're 2 years past the 5, which even if you had below 60k, the warranty is expired by years.

The 2015 S550 Paint & Corrosion warranty has a prerequisite for the metal (aluminum body panels) having to be perforated in order for Ford to even consider a warranty repair effort (which was repairing the defect, not replacing the label). This prerequisite went all the way back to the S197 years too.

Starting in 2016, yes Ford revised the Paint and Corrosion Warranty lingo so that 1) there is no prerequisite for aluminum panels being perforated and 2) Ford will no longer repair an existing aluminum panel if there is corrosion, it is required to be replaced.

The Paint and Corrosion Warranty, even on 2016+ is still 5yr/60k, it was not extended. The actual lengthy thread with that info and correct TSB's is here:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/tsb-19-2026-aluminum-panel-corrosion.117031/

So if any 2016+ Ford Owner has aluminum corrosion issues and is past the 5/60, by years or miles (whichever comes first) they too are SOL.

---
Ford as far as being of any assistance, regardless of the "know", is out of the equation due to Model Year and applicable Paint & Corrosion Warranty provisions.

Your only options at this stage would be:
- Buy a used color matched undamaged panel from eBay, forums, LKQ or local salvage facilities.

- Try to attempt the repair yourself, but be forewarned, aluminum corrosion will come back worse if the prep/repair process isn't done right.

- Look up local body shops and have them repair the panel. Before you blindly go with any shop, always search them out online and read reviews about them, check BBB for any negatives or run the question on forums to see if anyone used them and can give input to their quality of work.

Thanks for the reply Cobra Jet. I pretty much knew I would get nowhere at the dealership...but never hurts to ask. And YES...Ive been looking on different websites for replacement hoods and youtube for touchups on the hoods rather than total replacement.
And thanks for the forewarning!!
I just thought it ODD to say the least that Ford would extend the Paint and Corrosion another 5 YEARS for the 2016. Especially after knowing that this is an issue. But ok.

Yea, I also don't know how Ford or it's legal team came to the decision to revise the P&C warranty in 2016, a 1 year difference to the prior model years with similar aluminum corrosion issues. Also considering the S550 was a brand new model and barely 1 year old when the warranty provisions were revised, so one would think they would have included it in the TSB. Unfortunately a 1 year difference if included still wouldn't have helped a 2015 owner now.

Put a "want" out here on the classifieds - there's quite a few folks who part these S550's out and may be able to find a matched color replacement hood for you.

A 2016 doesn't have an additional 5 years of corrosion warranty. It has 5 yr/60k miles from the original in service dare. Most if not all 2016's would be out of warranty based on the 5 year timeframe.

I can't help or contribute... Just want to commiserate with you as I've also started looking for a shop to fix my 2016's hood. The short edge at the front above the driver's side headlight is bubbled almost completely across.

Although I did receive a safety recall notice for the backup camera but still waiting for the parts to "become available".

We are basically fukT lol.

I had a spot repaired when I bought my 2015 with 15k miles on it. That was 2 years ago and it was a one owner Georgia car. I now have 2 or three inch-long spots on the front of the hood, and perforation underneath. The plan is to just do nothing until I find a parts car or do a fiberglass hood. The prices will come down by the time it becomes a real problem.

I share your pain, having a similar hood concern on my '16 Police Utilty. Yep...it's past any warranty coverage, too.

Not holding my breath for a recall. Let us know what the repair cost or diy repair cost is.
