Hello Mustang family, I wanted to share a video which to me looks like a water pump failure due to the noise. Also did notice some coolant at the bottom of the car once I got home from work. Before I started purchasing parts, I wanted to come here to get some advise/confirmation if this does sound/look like a water pump failure. I’ve read that these cars typically have water pump failure around 30k or so. Guess I got lucky reaching 66k

Nonsense.

You're the first "join for a problem" person to come running here with a water pump issue. People have 100K+ miles, and not any issues with the water pumps. There is no "dreaded water pump failure" that's specific to S550s, and a failing water pump is dreadful on any vehicle.

Shit happens, and it's lasted 7+ years.....replace it. Looks like there's no coolant in your over-flow, why are you running the motor?

Well, I apologize for asking a question as my first post. I thought this forum was my best bet for getting advice. The car was on because I had just started it up in the morning to head to work. Noticed a strange sound, popped the hood and recorded. Car hasn’t been on since.

Mine went out on my 2016 convertible at 59k miles back in 2019. I had a slow leak at first, took it in and they pressure tested it and said it was fine. About 4 months later happened again and they replaced the water pump under warranty just in time for it to expire. LOL

Get it replaced. It sucks but these things happen. Once you take care of that water pump you will be set if you take care of your car and maintain it properly.

Considering that I can see the pulley wobbling off center, I'd say it probably is your water pump. It is easy to replace with basic hand tools. Replace the belt as well. You will know for sure once you get the belt off and spin it by hand

Never heard this being a common problem. My 2014 GT had no issues up to 100K then for my piece of mind I replaced it at that mileage. Water pumps are super easy to replace in this car, if you can do it yourself its worth it.

My opinion is, water pumps are a wear item. They can go on any car. But I don't think the Mustangs are known for it anymore so than any other car. When mine went it was at an unfortunate time - long trip to PA for my brother's wedding. Failed while cruising on the highway in 6th gear. With my music blaring I didn't notice it until I saw the white smoke coming out the back. Luckily I was able to pull over when I did. CHT climbed to 260 which is danger zone. From then on, I keep an eye on the CHT and make sure the cooling system is working. But no issues since. My buddy has a 2016 GT with more mileage than me, still on factory water pump.

15 Mustang GT water pump is fine. You can probably swap it out yourself.

Water pump is very dead.
Also, as other mentioned, there is no coolant in the expansion bottle, don't run the car in that condition!

I'm surprised it didn't give a sign of going bad, because as it looks, it's in the stage where you run a good amount of miles after the typical initial slow leak that water pumps usually have when they start to fail. This thing sounds and looks like it's destroyed.

Edit: by looking better it also looks it sprayed all the timing cover with coolant, and you have a big pool under the car, I really hope you didn't run the car with no coolant.

I still have coolant in the expansion bottle, probably just hard to see in the video. Here is a pic below. Where do you see the coolant sprayed over the timing cover?

I keyed in on the sound. The pump's internals are not well. As others have mentioned, the pulley being off-center or wobbling is an indicator it might be about to give-way.

I wouldn't drive it further, if possible. Not until the pump is replaced. This is also a good time to consider replacing the belt and/or coolant.

Also inspect your pullies and tensioner while you at it. Mostly likely they are fine but might as well since you are in there.

Good things there still is coolant, your engine is safe then.

The timing cover from the video looks brown-ish, like it had coolant sprayed on it that cached dust. Normally is the pulley that rotating sprays it all over.

Dude, no need to apologize to him 🤨
