Thoughts? Would you repair it or just get a new tire (its on the edge of the side wall )? I don't track it but go on long and fast rides :/. The tires are the stock P0's.

If you ask a tire shop, I’m guessing the answer is “no”. For me: I’d plug it and just know I shouldn’t do any 150 MPH runs on it. *shrug*

Technically, no.

I've seen worse patched/plugged but it's always a risk. I'm not sure it's a risk I'd be willing to take in a sports car that's driven hard. Replacing it is definitely safest. Either way you'll probably have to do it yourself as you're unlikely to find a tire shop willing to take responsibility.

It’s a close call but I’m not risking my life over the cost of a tire. Get a new one.

Edit: Silly question but are you losing air? Looking at it more closely there’s a chance it’s a short screw and didn’t go through.

If you search my posts I plugged mine in the exact spot as the OP. Super aggressive Track attack events / quarter mile runs / street hooning it's held up fine all summer. Hasn't lost any air either.

Plug it and when the opportunity is there take it in to a repair shop and have them patch it from the inside. They can grind down the plug and put the patch over top. That way there's no reason to not trust it.

You can *probably* get away with a plug but it’s getting awfully close to the sidewall. Personally I wouldn’t want to think about it every time I wanted to get on the car.

If you can get someone to do it a better option might be to break it down and vulcanize a hot patch on the inside.

Plug/umbrella type patch should be ok. Keyword is should.

Edit: After looking at the location of the screw better, if it were me, I'd bite the bullett and get a replacement. I occasionally run up to the speed limiter. I wouldn't want to have a disaster at that speed.

Appreciate all the replies but all of you haven't made it any easier to decide I'm truly stumped this is a hard one. I think I'm leaning on replacing this.

My car got scraped in a parking lot so it's at a body shop and the tech noticed it and sent me a pic. So I haven't been able to inspect if the screw is deep enough. I'll just check what to do when I go and pick it up. I didn't lose any psi since my last run so it's possible it's shallow and hasn't pierced the tire 🤞 all my buddies have said to patch it and yolo but I'm risk averse

That screw is in the grey area. If it hasn't pierced the tire take it out and go on your way. If it has pierced the tire it is in the area where the belts are bonded to the carcass. A plug will cause seperation. A patch might save it. I wouldn't track it or run it hard if pierced.

From a tires shop perspective this is very likely not repairable as it looks to be outside of the belt package. If you would like to stop by one of our store locations our guys would be happy to take a look, if it is safe to do the repair they will do so at no charge.
