Is the c8 too expensive?

A good friend of mine owns a C8 and has let me drive it a few times. I found it to be ok but also fun in its own way. I have not had a chance to really ring it out on a twisty road but i have stopped trying to look at things with the manual transmission comparison.

The manual transmission is dead. Period. We are on borrowed time.

We are the blockbuster to Netflix. My dealership told me 1 out of 10 mustangs they order are a manual and if only an auto is available theres a higher chance of "ok sure...." then there ever was.

The general publics opinion has shifted. I am 41 and drove manuals for a huge portion of my driving career. When I was in HS/College driving an automatic sports car brought on jokes and sympathy for your terrible experience. It was a DEALBREAKER for me when shopping. Even autos on BAT/Cars n bids the comments are bewildering as younger people don't even understand why the purist are making fun of the autos or expressing how disappointing a NSX w an auto is.
The gap is that wide.

People don't look at manuals as fun and engaging they look at them as

Why on earth would i want to do that? in the same way as why on earth would i want to

make my own ice
manually cut grass
etc

Unbiased the performance isn't as different as it used to be so maybe i can't blame people and should stop yelling at the clouds

Its frustrating but I bet my next brand new sports car will end up an automatic. Not by choice but just cause thats all that will be offered. )=

Overall I don't like the C8 look reminds me of a child's toy or transformer with it's animated lines.

I did see a ZO6 in the shop of my PPF guy and it's was impressive. Way cleaner lines and masculine with wider fenders and qtrs. At this price though I can do way better with LC500 or SL.

My 22 Mustang GT is premium with all the features and i can sell it for almost what i paid, but the base c8 is pretty stripped down feature wise and they say you should get the 2LT and i dont think the z51 package is worth it but even 2lt c8 is about 78k and I never spent that much on a car before and idk if its worth it I feel like at that price i would rather have a GT500 cause even if its slower it still has the utility of back seats that can be folded down to carry stuff

otherwise what car would be a step up from mustang GT but cheaper than c8 or gt500?

I’m a few years older than you are (mid 40’s), so my experiences are very similar. I’ve stopped owning manuals for a few different reasons but ease/convenience is part of it.

With regards to performance, especially in performance/sports cars, the automatics are superior. There’s no two ways about it, they can shift faster than any human can and assuming they’re programmed/tuned properly, they will shift at the most optimal points for whatever it is you’re doing. All that said, there’s a fun factor and driver engagement aspect to manuals that can’t be replicated with an auto and there are still those that prefer the manual for those very reasons. Unfortunately, it’s a dwindling crowd and manuals will very likely go away, probably sooner than later. Even though I probably won’t own a manual again, I like those that want them to actually have the option to buy one.

As it pertains to the C8, much like the GT500, the DCT is a perfect match for the car IMO. GM got the tuning right too, the shifts are optimized for whatever mode you’re in and they’re lightning fast. I would argue the same for the GT500, it’s programmed properly from factory (good thing because I believe the trans programming is locked down, it is for sure on the C8) and it’s lightning fast. There’s basically no lag from paddle click to shift, it’s wonderful.

But we all like what we like. The C7 is a terrific car if one wants a Vette that has a manual option. Would highly recommend a C7 if that’s what one wants.

I think there is potential for the choice of a manual to continue on and be offered, most likely just in sports cars. But the Bronco's revival is relatively recent and they offer a manual because they listened to their customers. No idea on actual take rate.

I'd encourage you to look at sports cars that offer a manual when the time comes. Consumer demand speaks volumes as seen in the slowing rate of growth in the EV segment. Also, you had the choice to go manual with your Mustang and unfortunately chose wrong.

People look at driving entirely different now and some are looking to buy a car that doesn't require them to even have a license. I say save the manuals for those that still want to drive.

My mustang is a manual. I want manuals to live on. I just don't think the bean counters will care but maybe rightfully so if people don't buy them. But young people don't have the opportunity to learn on entry level vehicles. Chicken/egg

Unfortunately this issue is a generational failure. People got lazy, and drivers went willingly to their death like sailors to the song of the Siren, over spec-sheet racing, and just gravitating to least effort.

Since parents put mini-vans' brood hauling over imparting the Art of the Shift (wax on, wax off), little Johnny and Suzie were allowed to think such life choices were permissible, let alone socially acceptable. If the Amish just succumbed to electricity would they be the hardy, resilient, hard-nosed masters of their domain? I think not.

I take all those reviews with a grain of salt. It comes down to personal finances.

on second read, maybe the complement wasn't as clear as I had intended.

I have 3.5 SV650, and some v-twin Aprilia and Ducs. The FZ07 comes close even if the engine cases are 'wrong'.

"C8 is crap because it doesn't have the manual". Yeah, I like manuals too, drove them my entire life but this is dumb as shit.

I personally don't think the C8 is crap. I just am not interested in buying one, because I don't think it's for me. But, I do think GM's efforts were misplaced and they designed a car for driving to C&C and the golf course more than for driving.

A 2 seat all aluminum sports car and the base model weighs well over 3,600 lbs? Ooof, that's a big girl. Yes, you can fit 2 sets of golf clubs in the trunk! YAY, just what I wanted!

And you can't get a fixed roof. Track drivers don't care about having a fixed roof, I'm sure.

Yes, if 0-60 or 1/4 mile times are the most important thing in a car to a person, they should buy the automatic version of the car.

Umm, base MSRP is $68,300 I believe.
