Faster than you think. GM already announced a 1000 hp C8

You're not wrong, but they haven't actually announced it announced it. They have merely confirmed that they had to make some adjustments because a 1,000 hp test unit broke the glass that covers the engine compartment. We (industry forecasters) are all expecting a 5.5TT Hybrid to approach or exceed 1,000 hp. Expect that to show up either as ZR1 or as "Zora" above the ZR1 trim.

I have a deposit on a C8 Z06 and I don’t think we will see it for another 12-18 months. The C8 launch has been a complete disaster for GM and they just can’t build nearly the volume of cars they expected. I don’t think they will be able to produce Z06’s until they can meet their current base C8 demand. And they simply cannot. Many people who put deposits down a year ago are still waiting and many won’t get cars for another 6-9 months.

Due to the strike and Covid, it’s possible GM delays the Z06 until 2022.

They were estimated to build and sell 40K+ the first year. It’s looking like 20K is going to be a stretch by the end of this year. It’s been a disaster because they delayed the production of the C8 by months due to a strike and then months more due to Covid. They have held cars in QC check for 4-6 weeks. They are still running only one shift (vs two), and It’s been a disaster because people who put down deposits a year ago still have no idea when they will get a car and GM is not communicating well to dealers, or owners. There are definitely people walking and either waiting or buying different brands.

The Z06 is simply not coming anytime soon because GM is so far behind on making base C8’s. They do t have capacity to make enough C8 base cars and Z06’s at the same time. The Z06 will sell in huge numbers. Expect 50% of all C8 sales to be Z06 the year it’s released. That’s why I think it will be 2022 or later.

Where does the ZL1 fit in this C8/GT350/GT500 dust-up...?

Cars that don’t exist are always better than cars that exist.

He might've read "Z06" (vs. the ZL1 that you posted), since the conversation has been Corvette vs. Mustang.
