I never considered not getting it, in fact, I even waited for a 2016 so I could get it on a convertible. As some folks above mentioned, it was a _really_ a steal in MY15/16 for $2495.

I test drove a new '17 manual with 3.55 option and then a new '17 with PP (3.73s). The PP really hauled a$$. I could feel the difference and 6th gear was somewhat usable on the freeway. The ride was a little rougher but not much. PP all the way for me.

That I have it and had to upgrade the IRS stuff and sway bar I can't possibly imagine me in a base GT and being at all happy with that chassis. BUt I drive balls out on the streets all the time and demand that kind of handling in my DD.

Love mine, it is well worth the money. The car actually feels composed in a bumpy corner instead of flopping around like a fish like the non cars do.

This might not be a issue or a concern but from a purely cosmetic standpoint.

Do you plan on adding an aftermarket front splitter?

The factory front splitter for a PP car is more flat from the front to the back. The non-pp splitter angles upwards towards the front.

If you are adding a splitter like an APR splitter it will sit flat on a PP car and angle upwards on a non-pp car. While you can swap a PP lip onto a non-pp car it is pricey because you have to buy the lip as well as the belly pan. The belly pan is not interchangeable between the two.

If you remove the factory lip and replace it altogether with an aftermarket lip. The problem goes away.

Would the track package you plan on buying handle better than the performance package?

I believe it's less comfort oriented and slower to the "street" package. I still have to look into the specifics of it.

Here is a pretty good part of a long term test by edmunds. They added the track handling pack, exhaust and the short shifter. They tested the car brand new and then after all the mods with new OE tires. They have a pretty good increase in slalom time and even up'ed the skidpad numbers. https://www.edmunds.com/ford/mustang/2015/long-term-road-test/2015-ford-mustang-gt-performance-testing-redux.html
So assuming all things equal{never are} it looks like the stock suspension may be a even for 1/4 use and the Track setup is noticeably better at handling.

I would agree. I didn't check the date of both tests, aka, if the weather was a **** hair better. But I believe it comes down to weight transfer. But if I remember correct PP rear springs have a higher rate than the Track springs(by like 30 pounds). So I am assuming it is about ride height, swaybars or shock valving.

Is it possible the 2018 is also a better pkg or do we know what it is already?
Better tires. And I believe people have said the standard 2018 GT has suspension a little closer the 2015-2017 PP suspension. And the 2018 PP suspension is a little more dialed in.

PP brakes $1300
Torsen diff $1100
figure $1000 for installation and you have spent more than the package price without considering any other PP parts.
The problem is those are the prices if you buy the parts after the fact. Ford gets to not install the original OEM radiator, rotors, calipers, suspension parts, etc.... which means it only costs them probably less than half of that.

They're installing parts on there anyway, so its not like us upgrading, where we have to take one part off & install another part. And they're doing the install in best case scenario, on an assembly line with all the right tools, etc. So there is no "extra charge" to install any of these parts over the standard parts. PP was something they had as a reasonable option to make the track guys happy and help sell cars. Now the Performance Package has become their big profit item.

Also keep in mind (a lot of people don't know this), but if you add one of the ford performance power packs your powertrain warranty goes down to 36k miles. So if you buy a car with 5k on it and it has a 60k warranty and you do a power pack, your 60k warranty went to 36k. The 36 bumper to bumper doesn't change as I understand it.

If you go with an aftermarket tune and bolt-ons, they would have to prove a problem was caused by those. I suppose with the ford pack you're hosed on any problem after 36k whether it was related to that power pack or not. I don't think the ford packs are worth doing before the 60k warranty is up.

If you don't buy the PP, then want to add the PP brakes and diff, that is what it is going to cost you. Yes, it cheaper to just get the right parts up front than to get the wrong ones, and have to buy and install the right ones.

As for how good the new PP is, no one outside of Ford knows yet. They are rumored to come with better Michelin tires, which using your substitution cost method above should add a max of $200 to the package price, not $1000+. Any change/improvement to springs, ARBs, or shocks (if there are any) should cost Ford virtually nothing as they just substitute them for the current parts.

The published description of the 2018 only has one change (other than price) from the 2015-17 cars. Small rear wing on the coupes (convertibles are still spoiler delete, yet at the same price).

I've only owned my GT PP for 2 weeks, and this is from a strictly appearance standpoint, but I liked the spoiler on '17 EB. Wish it carried over to the PP. And I know the 3.73 gears are popular with the Boy Racer crowd, but I would have been fine with the 3.55 I had before. We all buy our cars for different reasons.

All depends on what you want. I didn't want a track car and wanted a street car with heated and AC'd seats. Plus the discounts were just too good to pass up for what was on the lot.
