This is why flex is so great. You don't get the low/mid grunt of the aggressive E85R tune, but you have the convenience of it adjusting on its own with all the peak power being the same.

It's not so much the AFRs, but what could be damaging is the timing.

A pure E85 tune assumes certain octane, and thus delivers rather aggressive timing ramp up and overall. If you're running a lower octane fuel (E54) with aggressive timing for a higher octane fuel then you could be causing some damage.
It would be real easy to log it to find out instead of just guessing. The 18 plus has 4 knock sensors. Data would give you accurate answers.

NO! When you find a place that has 85 Ethanol or better, fill up some extra cans to have on hand. Best to always test before you fill your car.

VP X85 fuel is always my back up in early spring, until my local gas stations get in the summer blend of E85. Winter blend tests about 79% in Michigan.

By any chance would you know if that 5 gallon drum would fit in a mustang trunk or would it have to go in back seat? Thanks!

Ask your tuner. I know a lot of tunes have built in safety because of this reason as E85, if you read the fine print, can be anywhere between low 50's to even over 85 sometimes. If I remember correctly though, the ignition timing flexibility between the 50's and up to 70's was actually pretty forgiving. Again, ask your tuner.

Motopopo80 In Prescott and trying to organize a E85 run for a multi drum buy for folks up here. Do I need a security clearance for the dist source you found?

Any E 85 near Flagstaff? None of the E 85 finder sites report it, but I’m just curious. Not E 54, E 85

Ive heard you can have the same timing on e40 as e85 but IDK.. e40 does make around the same power though. I'd be a bit scared if I knew it wasnt e85 and I would datalog a lot and send to tuner.

Assuming you have a Lund E85 tune, I'll quote what John Lund Sr told me when I asked "what's the lowest amount of acceptable ethanol content to run on an E85 tune"

"Minimum is around e82-83 for optimal performance. If you run less than E80 it will run rich but the fuel trims can correct up to 30% off. It will be ok but performance will suffer some what."

The E85R tune is very different from the flex tune IMO. Butt dyno and feeling in the car is night and day difference. I also get the feeling from talking to my tuner - flex fuel tunes are only really for convenience nothing more. They are not as crisp as the straight tunes. For certain the timing ramp up on the flex tune is not what it is on the E85R tune. This seems to be gel with my short experience with it.

Sorry for reviving a dead thread but can you tune for E54? I know of folks here in Phoenix with Infinity's that are running a tune for E30...

Yes you can. Most guys around here run a flex fuel tune due to the lack of e54 gas stations. I have a flex as well but I also have a e54r tune from Lund. Not sure who else will do a dedicated e54 tune but I love Lund's. I use it all year long with the exception of the few times I run 91 octane through the car. What part of the valley are you in?

Forgot to mention I have a Roush Blower on my 2018. Lund won't tune it.

Central Phoenix. I have a station right down on 7th and Indian School that sells E54. I definitely can't make the trip to Mesa all the time as I do daily my car.
