- 2016 Mustang Ecoboost
Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. My wife just bought herself a new 2016 Mustang ecoboost with the 19" wheel package and some other interior and tech stuff, no performance package or manual tranny unfortunately :( it'll be her daily driver until she gets bored with it and buys something else and I'm not planning to do any major mods until we pay the car off next year
List of things I'm planning to change from stock/OE. The list isn't finalized yet as I'm still tearing through the forums for information, consistent weaknesses and recommended upgrades. Let's call this "phase 1 of hippos EcoBuild"
- NGK spark plugs or maybe Denzo? Seems like there is some love for Denzo, this is something I'm still thinking about, but I know that I want something better than whatever trash Ford put in there.
- PCV catch can - Because oil shouldn't be going certain places... and I'm hoping this shouldn't deny a service claim under warranty, either way, super easy to go back to stock.
- Drop in air-filter - Because race car. Probably gunna be K&N unless someone has a recommendation with some science behind it.
- Speaking of lube... Amsoil 5W-30 Signature Synthetic series - If I can't get my hands on Amsoil, choice number two is M1 5w-30. I might bump it up to a x-40/50 or something if I hit up a local track day. Wix oil filters of course.
- Hard intercooler lines? - Has anyone had service claims denied because of replacement charge pipes? I noticed that it's made from a soft rubber/polyplastic/blackmagic/redeyesblackdragon material? Whatever it is, obviously a stupid choice and another place Ford cheaped out because 25k sports car. I probably won't do this because the dealership is stupid and thinks a sticker that says 5whp is enough of a modification to deny a service claim.
- Tires - I think the car is standing on Pirelli P Zero something all seasons. As soon as those wear out I'm probably gunna switch to Michelin Pilot Super Sports unless someone has a better recommendation.
That's it for now, it's a daily driver and it'll probably stay that way until summer when we pay off the car, then we'll have some more fun. So what is hippos gunna do when summer comes and the car is paid off? Let's call this list "phase 2 of hippos EcoBuild"
- Intake & Piping - because race car or turbo noise, your choice, I like both.
- CBE or TBE - Because race car AND more needs more growl. Stock system sounds blah.
- DV - Because VTA or 50/50 - again, race car and also cuz BOV noises or maybe because the stock unit is terrible and couldn't hold down a part time job at 7/11 much less a turbo at full boost.
- Intercooler & Piping - Because race car and probably because heat soak is a bitch. I like my timing not retarded when i'm ecoboosting past slammed 4 door honda civic's with torched springs and hack job ebay exhausts. It looks really bad when the ECU says fk u when you're trying to out douchebag a stage 2 Slobaru at your local car meet.
- AT radiator - So I don't know what the deal is with automatic transmission with the ecoboost but I guess I'll find out soon enough. inb4 someone says "wtf are you wasting your time modding an automatic car?" My answer to that question is, "because race car".
- Pro tune - Whaaaaat new guy isn't wondering why you can't just slap on a catless exhaust and cold air intake and wonder why it isn't making anymore power? WTF M8! Hello, I'm hungryhippos and I've owned a pair of Mitsubishi Evolutions which is the poster child tuner cars. So the question remains who's the pro-est of pro tuners for the EB platform? Is there a "Trusted tuners I'd show my datalogs" thread?
As a side note, I noticed that Mishimoto is making aftermarket parts for this platform. I used all your stuff when it came to cooling mods on my evo 10, so PREPARE YOUR INBOX because one day this Mustang EB is gunna get all the bolt ons and it's gunna have pretty M on it... after we give the finger to ford's warranty of course.
No pics no proof amirite?
Yes... I know, it's my wife's car. But that doesn't mean I can't dream about modding it. I'll enjoy my fancy oil changes in the mean time.
